Cin7 Core versus Fishbowl comparison cover

Cin7 Core vs Fishbowl is a decision about stock, orders, warehouses, manufacturing, and integrations. Both offer substantially more than inventory counts. Cin7 Core connects purchasing, sales, production, accounting, and fulfillment across a broad ecosystem. Fishbowl spans cloud inventory and more advanced manufacturing and warehouse configurations, with particular attention to connected accounting and operational control.

Our starting recommendation is Cin7 Core when connected multichannel sales, replenishment, and fulfillment drive the project. Give Fishbowl particular attention when manufacturing, detailed warehouse processes, accounting fit, and deployment choice drive the purchase. These are evaluation priorities rather than exclusive boundaries: Cin7 has substantive manufacturing, and Fishbowl has ecommerce connections and cloud offerings.

This comparison uses official sources checked on 25 October 2026. Documented functionality is separated from Toollers editorial judgment and proposed evaluation cases. No hands-on benchmark, independent usability measurement, new numerical rating, guaranteed savings, or universal deployment duration is claimed. Product boundaries, current published prices, regional pages, and forward-looking feature wording are qualified where they affect the purchase.

Cin7 Core vs Fishbowl: quick verdict

Choose Cin7 Core first when the operational problem is keeping channels, stock, suppliers, and fulfillment aligned. It deserves a detailed trial when growing ecommerce, marketplace, wholesale, and warehouse activity creates repeated reconciliation. Evaluate the exact Core tier, integrations, manufacturing, WMS, forecasting, and services required. [2] [13]

Choose Fishbowl first when the operational problem centers on production, distribution, or accounting-connected inventory. Advanced manufacturing and warehouse configurations deserve close assessment where the business needs BOMs, work orders, resource planning, detailed fulfillment, or flexible hosting arrangements. Name the actual Fishbowl product before comparing. [24] [26] [37]

Do not frame the decision as cloud versus desktop or commerce versus manufacturing. Cin7 offers standard assembly and advanced production options. Fishbowl offers cloud-native Inventory alongside Advanced configurations and a newer cloud AI Manufacturing proposition. Product, region, and commercial scope determine what is actually being evaluated. [7] [8] [23] [38]

The winner is the configuration that passes the important receiving, stock, order, production, and accounting cases with a realistic cost and operating team. Neither a low entry reference, a familiar accounting logo, nor a long feature list establishes that result by itself.

Treat the table as a buying map rather than a scorecard. Give both vendors the same products, locations, transactions, channels, and exceptions. Identify what is delivered directly, configured, supplied by another service, or manual, then check that the proposal includes the demonstrated scope.

Define the products before comparing the features

Cin7 Core is the cloud inventory and operations product compared here. Cin7 Omni is a distinct offering. A Cin7-wide feature page or partner directory helps describe the portfolio, but it does not establish that every advertised function is included in the selected Core tier. [2] [18]

Fishbowl’s current pricing separates cloud Inventory from Advanced Warehouse and Advanced Manufacturing. It explicitly excludes BOMs, work orders, and MRP from the entry Inventory plans. A general Fishbowl manufacturing page should therefore not be used to imply that the lowest cloud inventory subscription includes the complete production setup. [22]

Newer Fishbowl AI Manufacturing also needs separate identification. Official launch material describes Juno within a cloud-native operations platform, while Advanced has its own deployment and API documentation. Do not combine every historical Fishbowl feature, new AI announcement, and entry price into one assumed package. [38] [36]

Create an architecture map showing the system of record for products, stock, purchasing, sales, production, accounting, and fulfillment. Name the product, version, region, provider, and owner at each handoff. This makes a proposed configuration concrete enough to evaluate and price.

Deployment and infrastructure responsibilities

Cin7 Core is positioned as a cloud service. Fishbowl’s hosting material distinguishes cloud-native Inventory from Hosted Services for Advanced. The current US pricing page also describes Advanced cloud-hosting and flexible deployment, including self-managed options. Fishbowl should not be characterized as desktop-only. [2] [26] [22]

For a cloud-native service, confirm user access, integrations, updates, recovery, and export arrangements. For a hosted or self-managed Advanced setup, additionally name the server, client, database, operating system, connectivity, backup, patching, and upgrade responsibilities relevant to the actual proposal.

Hosted application delivery is different from assuming every workflow runs identically in a browser. Demonstrate the warehouse, finance, production, and remote-user tasks on the proposed devices and access method. Identify any client software or specialist administration required.

Deployment choice can influence integrations and support as much as user access. A locally controlled system may fit a specific infrastructure requirement, while a managed service may reduce internal work. Neither architecture establishes a universal security, usability, or total-cost winner without reviewing the actual responsibilities.

Company size and operational complexity

SKU count, channel mix, order volume, warehouses, production steps, and staff roles matter more than a simple company-size label. A small manufacturer with nested BOMs and outsourced processing may need more careful configuration than a larger distributor moving finished goods through one channel.

Cin7 is a natural first evaluation when connected sales and fulfillment create the greatest complexity. Fishbowl is a natural first evaluation when production, distribution controls, accounting, or infrastructure choice dominate. Both can require substantial data preparation and continuing operational ownership.

Measure seasonal peaks, not just average activity. Cin7’s current Core plans include different sales-order allowances. Fishbowl proposals also need explicit confirmation of order, warehouse, user, integration, and usage terms rather than infer unlimited execution from a broad marketing claim. [2] [22]

Model the next increase in complexity: another channel, location, resource, production process, or 3PL. Determine whether it adds only licenses or introduces another module, product, deployment, partner, or implementation project. Growth can change the appropriate architecture before the business reaches an arbitrary employee threshold.

Inventory records, availability, and stock accuracy

Cin7 publishes stock visibility connected with purchasing, sales, and fulfillment. Fishbowl publishes inventory and parts tracking, locations, movements, counts, and configurable tracking fields. Evaluate both through stock movement rather than only a dashboard demonstration. [3] [23] [30] [29]

Build a representative catalog with simple products, variants, packs, non-stock items, serials, and perishable batches where relevant. Define units of measure, product identifiers, and barcode ownership before importing. Check that channels and accounting use compatible product and quantity mappings.

Receive stock, commit part to an order, transfer another portion, record damage, and perform a count. Inspect on-hand, available, reserved, incoming, and in-transit quantities. Agree what each number means: similar labels can reflect different treatment of unissued or incomplete transactions.

Correct an erroneous receipt or quantity and inspect the downstream effects. A dependable inventory record needs a traceable adjustment and understandable consequences. The objective is a stock position that can be reconciled to physical goods and financial records, with a clear owner for exceptions.

Purchasing, receiving, and supplier work

Cin7’s purchasing material covers purchase orders, suppliers, receiving, approvals, and split shipments or invoices. Fishbowl’s receiving material covers receipt, reconciliation, and landed costs, while order-management material describes replenishment and purchase generation. Apply these portfolio capabilities to the exact product proposed. [4] [27] [28]

Test a supplier deposit, partial delivery, changed price, short shipment, damaged quantity, and final invoice arriving later. Follow availability, supplier balances, additional charges, and accounting output. Establish which actions can be corrected and which need approval.

For replenishment, use a slow supplier, seasonal product, stock in transit, open sales commitments, and a transfer alternative. Compare an alert, a suggested purchase, and an automatically prepared order as separate outcomes. Identify who reviews and authorizes each one.

Have a buyer approve the order and a receiver process it without access to unrelated financial settings. Include an unexpected receipt or price difference. The useful process reduces repeated entry while retaining clear responsibility for supplier communication, stock discrepancies, and financial reconciliation.

Sales, allocation, and order fulfillment

Cin7 publishes connected sales, channel, fulfillment, and returns workflows. Fishbowl describes order statuses, shortages, picking, packing, shipping, and accounting handoff. The relevant comparison is the complete transaction in the actual configuration rather than how quickly a sample invoice can be created. [6] [28]

Use a quote converted into an order, a partially available order, a backorder, a customer change, and cancellation after picking starts. Follow allocation, picking, packing, shipment, invoice, and payment. Record when stock stops being available to another customer.

Test two orders competing for the last units, including an online sale arriving during a warehouse adjustment. Inspect timing, conflicts, and error recovery. No product description proves that overselling or duplicate work can never occur under every connection and failure condition.

For wholesale, include customer-specific pricing, quantity breaks, credit terms, and partial shipments. For ecommerce, include refunds, discounts, shipping, tax, and channel identifiers. The desired result is a traceable commercial record that reaches stock, customers, and accounting correctly without repeated manual repair.

Warehouses, locations, bins, and transfers

Current Cin7 Core plans list unlimited locations, with standard and advanced WMS scope distinguished. Fishbowl publishes multi-location warehouse and fulfillment capabilities across its portfolio. Confirm the specific cloud tier or Advanced configuration, including any regional differences, rather than infer identical behavior everywhere. [2] [5] [25]

Map warehouses, stores, vehicles, customer sites, bins, quarantine areas, and external stock. Ask how the proposed product distinguishes locations, location groups, sublocations, ownership, and transit. An unlimited location statement does not establish every warehouse process or control.

Transfer goods through dispatch, transit, and receipt, including a short receipt and a transfer canceled midway. Inspect whether the quantity can be allocated during transit and how discrepancies are resolved. Assign an owner at both ends of the movement.

For directed picking, batch picking, advanced routing, or distribution rules, require the actual workflow. Fishbowl’s current comparison matrix retains forward-looking notes for some capabilities, including transfer-related wording. Confirm which product and released version handles the scenario; do not generalize a cloud roadmap note to all Advanced functions. [22]

Barcode scanning, mobile workflows, and hardware

Cin7’s warehouse offering includes barcode and mobile work, with advanced behavior dependent on WMS scope. Fishbowl publishes barcode, mobile parts, warehouse, and order workflows. Mobile therefore deserves a substantive trial on both sides rather than being treated as exclusive to one platform. [5] [29] [25]

Test existing scanners, printers, label sizes, barcode formats, and devices. Include a damaged label, duplicate supplier code, pack-size scan, unknown product, and unexpected quantity. Scanning the correct SKU should not accidentally accept the wrong unit, location, or batch.

Run receiving, picking, packing, transfers, and counts in the warehouse’s actual wireless conditions. Check screen size, gloves, printer access, permissions, and lost-connection handling. Do not assume every desktop, hosted-client, or web action has identical mobile coverage.

Separate software entitlement from hardware purchase and administration. Existing equipment compatibility, consumables, replacement devices, remote access, and setup support can change operating cost. Measure representative task completion rather than adopt a vendor’s speed or accuracy claim as an independent benchmark.

Lots, serial numbers, expiry, and recall evidence

Cin7 Core’s WMS documentation ties serial and batch behavior to supported costing methods. Advanced WMS can recommend or enforce FIFO/FEFO selection. Correct product setup and workflow controls matter; a batch field alone does not establish the required operating restriction. [16]

Fishbowl publishes tracking fields including lots, serials, expiry dates, revisions, and batches. Current cloud pricing associates deeper traceability with specific scope, while Advanced has its own inventory documentation. Verify the exact product, plan, version, and reports required for the business. [30] [34] [22]

Trace a received batch through transfer, manufacturing where applicable, customer shipment, return, and write-off. Identify remaining stock and affected customers. Test near-expiry stock and the difference between suggesting older stock and preventing an operator from choosing another batch.

Validate identifier rules rather than assume serial values must be unique. Cin7’s current WMS guide notes that duplicate serial values can be entered. For both platforms, establish validation, migration, correction, and report requirements before importing opening stock. Product traceability does not by itself establish regulatory certification or a complete compliant recall process. [16]

Counts, corrections, and the inventory audit trail

Cin7 publishes stocktake and warehouse controls. Fishbowl Advanced’s indexed Inventory documentation describes tracking edits, moves, cycle counts, scrap, and costing. Keep that Advanced evidence separate from assumed entitlement or identical behavior in cloud Inventory. [5] [34]

Run a representative count while including stock that moves during the exercise. Define who creates the count, records quantities, investigates discrepancies, and authorizes adjustments. Test a missed item, wrong bin, unexpected batch, damage, and a repeated scan.

Agree how an uncounted item differs from a genuine zero. Inspect the retained history and effects on available stock, valuation, and accounting. A silent zero or an unexplained adjustment can create more trouble than an obvious missing record.

Ask an ordinary supervisor to correct a mistake safely and explain what changed. Compare the exception workload and permissions required. The objective is consistent physical and system stock with controlled corrections, not a claim that software eliminates every source of inventory error.

Assembly, BOMs, and production orders

Cin7 publishes assembly for kits, bundles, components, and BOMs, with advanced production available through additional scope. Its breadth deserves evaluation for manufacturers as well as multichannel sellers. Distinguish standard assembly from MRP, detailed scheduling, and shop-floor requirements. [7] [8] [18]

Fishbowl’s Advanced manufacture-order API describes organizing work orders for manufacture, disassembly, and repair. Its manufacturing portfolio and published Advanced offering also describe BOMs and production. Entry Fishbowl Inventory plans explicitly exclude manufacturing, so choose the correct product before comparing capabilities. [37] [24] [22]

Use a product built from multiple components, a nested assembly where required, a shortage, scrap, a changed input cost, and a partial build. Follow material consumption, finished stock, labor, valuation, and the sales commitment that triggered the work.

Distinguish a sales bundle from physically building inventory before sale. Test substitution, rework, and disassembly when they matter. A BOM listing is only one part of production; determine whether the actual configuration also handles scheduling, resource, quality, and costing needs with manageable administration.

MRP, scheduling, capacity, and shop-floor execution

Cin7’s advanced manufacturing material describes production orders, resources, capacity, scheduling, and nested production. Fishbowl Advanced Manufacturing markets MRP, scheduling, work orders, and job/labor costing. These are serious manufacturing candidates, but their exact depth and commercial scope need demonstration. [8] [22] [37]

Test a rush order, unavailable material, overloaded resource, delayed operation, and partial completion. Inspect the proposed response, reservation, revised dates, and cost. Ask who resolves a disagreement between a sales promise and what production can actually deliver.

For each platform, separate material availability from finite capacity and from an optimized schedule. Include subcontract processing, coproducts, quality checks, or engineering revisions only where needed, and require explicit proof rather than assume every production term implies the same capability.

A simple assembler may gain little from extensive planning that requires data it cannot maintain. A more demanding manufacturer may leave critical work outside a basic build workflow. Choose from the actual production model, operator tasks, and available team rather than a generic claim of ERP-level power.

Costing, margins, and accounting fit

Both platforms publish connections with accounting systems. Cin7 describes QuickBooks Online account mapping and financial exchange, with Xero in its ecosystem. Fishbowl publishes QuickBooks Online and Xero connections and identifies Desktop/Enterprise scope in its Advanced offering. Confirm the actual edition and product rather than infer interchangeability. [14] [13] [32] [33]

Test purchase cost, freight, duties, adjustments, returns, assembly cost, and sales margin. Use the valuation method required by the business. Physically picking the oldest batch is a different question from financial costing and inventory valuation.

Fishbowl’s QuickBooks Online material describes an Advanced/plugin workflow with scheduled exports and account mapping. This is more precise than assuming every Fishbowl accounting transaction is instantaneous or bidirectional across every product. Its cloud pricing also carries availability wording that requires confirmation. [32] [22]

Reconcile opening stock, receipts, inventory value, COGS, invoices, payments, taxes, and period-end adjustments with the accountant. Include failed exports, duplicate contacts, closed periods, and corrections. A familiar accounting logo is a reason to evaluate, not proof that every required financial scenario is supported.

Multichannel selling, integrations, and failure recovery

Cin7 markets a broad ecosystem connecting ecommerce, accounting, and fulfillment. Fishbowl’s directory also lists commerce, shipping, accounting, EDI, and partner solutions. Integration counts should not be compared as though every listing has the same depth, support, or price. [13] [31]

Test the exact storefronts, marketplaces, shipping services, and accounting editions. Inspect product/variant mapping, stock locations, orders, refunds, discounts, taxes, shipments, and customer records. Assign an authoritative system to each object and document synchronization timing.

Include an expired credential, rejected product, duplicate event, delayed update, and partial outage. Ask who receives the alert, who retries, and how the records are reconciled without duplicate orders or lost stock changes. A successful initial connection is only the beginning of reliable operations.

Cin7 distinguishes native, API, and optional integration scope. Fishbowl connections also need platform, version, deployment, partner, and service confirmation. A directory logo does not establish that a cloud Inventory connector and an Advanced connector share every field, trigger, fee, or support arrangement. [18] [36]

Wholesale, EDI, third-party logistics, and returns

Cin7 publishes a B2B portal and separately positioned 3PL Connect. Fishbowl’s order and warehouse material describes EDI, fulfillment, and third-party workflows, with deeper distribution scope positioned in Advanced. Define the actual portal, trading-partner, warehouse, and return processes in each proposal. [11] [12] [28] [25]

For wholesale, demonstrate customer pricing, restricted catalogs where required, quantity rules, terms, backorders, and repeat orders. Identify when an order commits stock and what happens when the buyer changes or cancels it.

For retail EDI, require the actual partner, document types, labels, acknowledgments, and support responsibilities. For a 3PL, test orders sent, receipts returned, tracking, transfers, discrepancies, and stock reconciliation. A general connection does not establish support for every retailer or warehouse requirement.

For returns, follow authorization, receipt, inspection, restock or quarantine, refund, replacement, and accounting correction. Cin7’s RMA-related scope varies by plan/add-on, and Fishbowl’s exact return workflow also needs product confirmation. A returned item should not silently become sellable stock before the appropriate decision. [18]

Reporting, forecasting, and AI capability

Cin7 publishes operational analytics and ForesightAI demand/replenishment tools. Its add-on documentation identifies ForesightAI as optional scope despite broad built-in positioning on feature pages. Confirm the actual subscription and data requirements rather than assume the feature is included in every Core purchase. [10] [9] [18]

Fishbowl markets analytics and AI across its portfolio. Its February US launch describes Juno for the cloud-native AI Manufacturing platform, with a March APAC announcement specifying regional availability. These launches do not establish identical availability or entitlement for every Advanced or cloud Inventory subscription. [38] [39]

Separate an inventory report, a demand forecast, a conversational answer, and an action that changes records. Compare shortages, overdue purchases, slow stock, margin, production readiness, and replenishment recommendations against underlying transactions. No independent AI accuracy or planning-quality winner was measured here.

Confirm released features, permissions, human review, fees, data handling, audit, and recovery. Fishbowl’s pricing matrix still includes forward-looking AI notes, so reconcile the proposed product and region with the written agreement. The calendar passing a stated release window is not proof of actual availability. [22]

Availability notes and conflicting public descriptions

Fishbowl’s public pricing currently mixes product cards with comparison rows carrying labels such as coming soon or available Q4. Bidirectional QuickBooks wording appears differently across the Growth card and the comparison matrix. Treat the exact product, release, region, and contract as unresolved until the vendor confirms them. [22]

That does not establish that all Fishbowl transfers, accounting connections, or AI functions are unavailable. Advanced documentation and separate launch materials describe substantive existing scope. The correct response is to identify which platform and function each statement concerns rather than apply one roadmap note to the whole family. [32] [37] [38]

The same discipline applies to Cin7-wide marketing. A capability described on a broad warehouse or AI page can require a higher tier, module, or partner service. Use Core-specific plan and support documentation to confirm the configuration being purchased. [2] [18]

Record promised capabilities, acceptance evidence, delivery commitments, and fallback. Keep a critical launch requirement separate from an optional future enhancement. Public positioning is useful for forming a shortlist, while the demonstration and contract establish what the business can depend on.

Permissions, APIs, security, and assurance scope

Cin7 Core documents WMS permissions. Fishbowl Advanced’s indexed user guidance describes user groups, location-group access, report rights, and MFA. Verify the exact release and configuration; Advanced permission evidence should not be assumed to describe every cloud Inventory control identically. [17] [35]

Test a receiver who cannot change prices, a picker restricted by location, a buyer with an approval limit, and a salesperson with limited customer access. Include reports, exports, mobile, and integrations. A hidden screen does not establish equivalent restrictions through every access path.

Fishbowl’s Advanced API guide says the matching documentation resides with the installed server version. Use that version-specific reference for custom integration design and testing. This article did not execute authenticated APIs or inspect a customer installation. [36]

Cin7 describes requestable SOC 2 Type 2 assurance. Fishbowl’s hosting page makes a SOC 2 Type II statement specifically for Hosted Services; do not silently extend it to every product or a self-managed installation. Restricted reports were not inspected. Obtain current service, hosting, period, recovery, access, and subprocessor evidence. [21] [26]

Implementation, migration, and support

Cin7 publishes onboarding and support options. Fishbowl’s vendor-authored implementation material describes data preparation and training. Neither establishes one universal faster deployment or guaranteed duration. Effort depends on products, production complexity, data, locations, infrastructure, integrations, and internal decisions. [15] [40]

Prepare products, units, opening quantities/costs, batches, serials, suppliers, customers, BOMs, open orders, and accounting mappings. Decide what history to migrate and what to retain for reference. Reconcile by product and location rather than only checking a total record count.

Pilot receiving, sales, returns, transfer, count, and manufacturing with the actual scanner, printer, deployment, channels, and accounting handoff. Define correction ownership, launch criteria, fallback, and when the old system stops accepting transactions.

Separate implementation help from ongoing support. Confirm hours, escalation, specialist services, training, integration ownership, and version changes. For a hosted or self-managed Advanced configuration, explicitly assign infrastructure and update work. No independent usability or administration-effort winner was established from public sources.

Pricing: compare published references on the right basis

Product/configurationPublished USD referenceQualification
Cin7 Core Standard349/monthNew-customer price excluding taxes; 5 users, 6,000 sales orders/year, 2 ecommerce/app connections
Cin7 Core Pro599/month10 users, 24,000 sales orders/year, 4 ecommerce/app connections
Cin7 Core Advanced1,199/month15 users, 120,000 sales orders/year, 6 ecommerce/app connections
Fishbowl Inventory Essentials229/month billed annually2 users; cloud inventory; manufacturing excluded
Fishbowl Inventory Growth429/month billed annually5 users; exact current feature/release scope needs confirmation
Fishbowl Advanced WarehouseStarts at 595/monthFinal quote depends on users/deployment; hosting and services need explicit scope
Fishbowl Advanced ManufacturingStarts at 675/monthFinal quote depends on users/deployment; full production configuration

These are current published references, not matched all-in offers. Cin7’s current Core matrix lists unlimited locations and differentiated allowances, with optional modules. Fishbowl’s annual cloud rates and Advanced starting references use different commercial framing. Confirm billing, term, users, scope, tax, and actual entitlement. [1] [2] [22]

Manufacturers should compare the required Cin7 assembly/MRP/production configuration with the appropriate Fishbowl manufacturing product, not the lowest cloud inventory tier. A finished-goods distributor should likewise avoid paying for production scope it will not use.

No universal complete-cost winner is established. Obtain written prices for setup, hardware, hosting, add-ons, partner accounts, integrations, order allowance, support, renewals, cancellation, and data exit. Do not reuse old perpetual-license or historical Fishbowl Drive prices as though they describe every current purchase.

Total cost, growth, and the business case

Build a two- to three-year view separating subscriptions, setup, hardware, infrastructure, training, integrations, partner services, and recurring administration. Keep retained applications visible until they can actually be retired. A displayed monthly equivalent and the cash commitment of annual billing are different planning inputs.

For Cin7, measure repeated channel work, stock reconciliation, replenishment, production planning, and fulfillment exceptions. For Fishbowl, measure production preparation, warehouse controls, accounting handoffs, and infrastructure-related work. These are hypotheses to validate, not guaranteed savings or proof that only one vendor can improve the process.

Model a stable year, seasonal peak, another warehouse, additional users, a new channel, and a changed production requirement. Determine which changes affect only licensing and which require another module, platform, service, or implementation phase. Include maintenance of custom integrations and recovery from failed updates.

Keep capacity released separate from cash savings. Less reconciliation or production preparation can improve service without reducing staff. A credible case identifies actual legacy costs that can be removed and the useful work made possible by recovered time. Validate those assumptions with the people doing the work.

Trials and the buying evaluation

Cin7 Core documents a 14-day trial without credit-card details. Fishbowl’s reviewed pages emphasize demonstrations and quotes; this research did not verify one universal trial duration or no-card policy applying to every Fishbowl product. Request the actual evaluation arrangement for the proposed configuration. [20] [22]

Use a representative sample of products, opening stock, suppliers, customers, orders, returns, transfers, and production. Include the actual devices, deployment, accounting edition, channels, and permissions. Keep evaluation data separate from production records.

Define success before the demonstration: correct quantities, explainable valuation, controlled access, reliable integrations, workable production, and manageable exception handling. Ask ordinary employees to complete the tasks and record where vendor help, specialist configuration, or custom development is required.

Use the result to plan implementation as well as choose software. Identify data cleanup, training, infrastructure, hardware, and workflow decisions still needed. A smooth sample demonstration does not establish that the business can launch without preparation or operate without continuing ownership.

Advantages and trade-offs

PlatformPotential advantagesTrade-offs to validate
Cin7 CoreBroad connected commerce; purchasing/order/warehouse workflows; assembly and advanced production options; forecasting and fulfillment ecosystem; published tier allowancesOrder/integration limits; optional modules; data discipline; manufacturing/WMS configuration; setup and ongoing administration
FishbowlManufacturing and warehouse depth in the right product; accounting connections including published Desktop/Enterprise scope; cloud and Advanced deployment choices; parts and traceability workflowsInventory versus Advanced/new AI boundaries; users/deployment quote; current availability wording; connector versions; infrastructure ownership; service-specific assurance

These are conditional considerations rather than independent ratings. Cin7’s breadth matters when it resolves connected operating problems. Fishbowl’s manufacturing and deployment choices matter when they fit the production model, accounting system, and available support team.

Either platform can create unnecessary administration if the proposed scope exceeds what the business needs or can maintain. Conversely, a narrow entry configuration may leave critical warehouse or production work outside the system. Evaluate the first implementation and likely next stage together.

Which platform fits your business scenario?

Business situationStarting pointEvidence required
Growing seller coordinating channels, warehouses, and fulfillment partnersCin7 Core deserves a close trialMappings, allocations, returns, synchronization failures, WMS and 3PL scope
Manufacturer/distributor prioritizing accounting-connected operationsFishbowl deserves a close trialCorrect Inventory/Advanced/AI product, local accounting edition, production, valuation, and support
Company needing Desktop/Enterprise accounting or controlled deploymentFishbowl Advanced deserves specific evaluationSupported versions, hosting/client architecture, updates, access, cost, and responsibility
Manufacturer needing advanced material/resource planningCompare both actual production configurationsBOMs, shortages, capacity, schedule, labor/costs, corrections, and entitlements
Finished-goods business replacing spreadsheetsCompare appropriately scoped entry configurationsUsers, warehouses, orders, barcodes, accounting, growth, and total cost
Company handling lot-tracked or serialized goodsCompare both traceability configurationsReceiving-to-customer evidence, expiry, identifiers, picking controls, returns, and corrections

Weight critical requirements before demonstrations. A severe stock, costing, production, or access failure can outweigh many minor convenience features. Record what was demonstrated, configured, partner-dependent, future-dependent, or unresolved, and ensure the purchased scope reflects that evidence.

Final verdict: Cin7 Core or Fishbowl?

Cin7 Core is the stronger starting point when connected multichannel sales, replenishment, warehouses, and fulfillment drive the purchase. Its manufacturing also deserves serious assessment. Confirm the actual tier, production and WMS options, integrations, forecasting, services, and continuing ownership.

Fishbowl is the stronger starting point when manufacturing, distribution controls, accounting fit, and deployment choice drive the project. Select the appropriate cloud Inventory, Advanced, or newer AI manufacturing scope, then demonstrate the specific products and releases. Reconcile availability wording and service responsibilities in the proposal.

Choose the configuration that passes important stock, order, production, and accounting cases with a realistic operating cost. Neither an entry price, familiar integration logo, cloud label, nor AI announcement establishes a universal winner.

Frequently asked questions

Is Cin7 Core better than Fishbowl?

Cin7 Core is a strong starting point for connected multichannel sales, replenishment, and fulfillment. Fishbowl deserves particular attention for manufacturing, distribution controls, accounting fit, and deployment choice. Actual products, tiers, releases, integrations, and complete operating cost determine the better choice.

Is Fishbowl cheaper than Cin7 Core?

No universal complete-cost winner was established. Fishbowl publishes cloud inventory rates and Advanced starting references, while Cin7 publishes Core tier prices. Compare equivalent users, warehouses, orders, production, integrations, setup, hosting, hardware, and support, preserving annual versus monthly billing distinctions.

What are the published starting references?

Cin7 Core Standard lists USD 349 per month for new customers, excluding taxes. Fishbowl Inventory Essentials lists USD 229 per month billed annually. Fishbowl Advanced Warehouse starts at USD 595 monthly and Advanced Manufacturing at USD 675, subject to users/deployment and the actual quote.

Does the lowest Fishbowl Inventory plan include manufacturing?

No. The current pricing page explicitly excludes BOMs, work orders, and MRP from Fishbowl Inventory plans. Evaluate Advanced Manufacturing or the relevant newer AI Manufacturing proposition for production, confirming the actual product, region, released scope, and contract.

Is Fishbowl only a desktop or on-premise application?

No. Fishbowl publishes cloud-native Inventory and Hosted Services for Advanced, while current pricing also describes flexible/self-managed Advanced deployment. Browser, client, mobile, infrastructure, backup, update, and integration responsibilities depend on the actual configuration.

Does Cin7 Core support manufacturing?

Yes. Cin7 publishes assembly, kits, BOMs, and advanced production/planning capabilities. Current materials distinguish standard scope from MRP, advanced production, and other optional features. Match the demonstration to the selected tier and add-ons rather than assume every manufacturing feature is included.

Do both connect with QuickBooks and Xero?

Both publish accounting connections. Fishbowl also identifies Desktop/Enterprise integration scope in its Advanced offering. Confirm product, edition, version, region, mapping, timing, errors, and services. Fishbowl’s Advanced QuickBooks Online material describes plugin/scheduled exports; do not assume identical instant bidirectional behavior everywhere.

Why does Fishbowl availability need confirmation?

Its current pricing mixes product cards with comparison rows retaining coming-soon and release-window notes, including bidirectional QuickBooks wording. This does not prove all related functions are unavailable. Confirm which platform, region, version, and contracted capability each statement concerns.

Do both support lot and serial tracking?

Both publish traceability capabilities, with product, plan, costing, and workflow qualifications. Test receiving, production, shipment, return, expiry, identifiers, selection controls, and reports. Cin7’s current WMS guide notes duplicate serial values can be entered, so uniqueness should not be assumed.

Is Fishbowl Juno included in every product?

Universal inclusion was not verified. US and APAC launches describe Juno within a cloud-native AI Manufacturing proposition, distinct from assuming every Advanced or Inventory purchase has the same capabilities. Confirm release, region, entitlement, fees, permissions, human review, audit, and recovery.

Which is easier or faster to implement?

No independent usability or universal implementation-speed winner was established. Effort depends on data, production, locations, hardware, accounting, integrations, deployment, and internal capacity. Compare representative tasks, migration reconciliation, training, exception handling, support, infrastructure responsibilities, and continuing administration.

What should we test before choosing?

Test partial receiving, allocation, backorders, transfers, stock counts, barcode errors, returns, lot/serial traceability, BOM shortages, production changes, costing, restricted access, and failed channel/accounting updates. Use quoted products and require explainable stock, valuation, recovery, and ownership.

Sources and editorial methodology

Official product pages, current pricing, support guidance, integration resources, launch statements, API documentation, onboarding material, and security disclosures informed this comparison. Business-fit recommendations and evaluation cases are Toollers editorial analysis. No firsthand benchmark, fabricated score, guaranteed savings, fixed deployment time, or independent forecast accuracy result is presented. Vendor testimonials and competitor rankings are not independent proof. Core/Omni and Fishbowl product/deployment boundaries, annual billing, optional modules, version-specific integrations, roadmap wording, and assurance scope are distinguished where material. Some Fishbowl help pages returned client-rendered shells; official indexed documentation supplied context. Restricted reports and live customer configurations were not inspected.
