Animoto
Make branded business videos from photos, clips, templates and AI-assisted drafts in the browser.
Template and storyboard tools, script/URL-led AI drafts, stock media, 1080p/4K exports, landing pages and team features cover common small-business videos.
Clear drag-and-drop editing receives favorable G2 feedback, although creative fine control is limited and Capterra documents customer-service criticisms.
Basic/Professional/Plus tier structure and annual/monthly levels are documented by recent page captures, but first-party live checkout pricing is unconfirmed and rights differ by tier.
Branded pages, media licensing and team roles support client content; losing hosted links on expiry and commercial resale restrictions matter.

About Animoto
Animoto is a template-based cloud video editor for marketers, educators, small businesses, photographers and content teams without a traditional professional editing workflow. Users arrange uploaded photos and clips on a storyboard, apply transitions, adjust font and brand colors, add captions or music and export social promos, testimonials, product demos and slideshow videos. Its current AI Video Creator can turn a description, media uploads or even a web page URL into a starter video that the editor can adjust. It also provides screen and webcam recording, stock footage, a branded share/play page and select higher-plan client collaboration. All registered users can create unlimited projects on the Free level; exports carry a 'Made with Animoto' watermark. Basic removes branding and unlocks 1080p downloads, but the vendor's licensing FAQ limits Basic videos to personal use. Professional adds voice-over, advanced branding, selected Getty media, 4K downloads for Animoto 3 projects and a limited resale license to end users for personal use. Professional Plus adds a three-seat team workspace, expanded stock access and the right to sell video work to businesses that use it commercially. An October 2026 third-party capture of the official Animoto pricing page reports Basic at $19 monthly or $9/month equivalent annually, Professional at $29/$19, and Professional Plus at $79/$39. Animoto's live pricing page returned a 403 access response during our research, so these price numbers are marked provisional pending checkout, even though the plan features and license boundaries were confirmed through vendor help articles. Animoto's official refund policy says subscriptions are non-refundable, including unused time; cancellation turns off renewal, and hosted player links may stop working when the paid plan ends. The matched G2 listing is 4.3/5 from 94 reviews, while Capterra's current reviews page reports 4.2/5 from 192; the Capterra overview shows 193, an indexing discrepancy. Toollers did not publish a sample video or test the editor's AI generation.
Best for
US small businesses, marketing assistants, teachers, independent photographers and agencies creating recurring branded slideshows, promos or client-ready marketing videos without an advanced editor.
Animoto pros and cons
Pros
- Free users can assemble unlimited videos from photos, clips and templates before deciding whether paid exports are necessary.
- Drag-and-drop storyboards and pre-designed transitions lower the learning curve for non-editors.
- AI Video Creator can draft a video using a description, uploaded media or a page URL, then let users edit the result.
- Basic removes the Animoto watermark and enables 1080p exports, while higher plans add brand controls and 4K downloads.
- Professional includes voice-over and a sizable commercially licensed stock/music selection for appropriate use cases.
- Professional Plus supports a team workspace and commercial client-resale scenarios that cheaper plans do not license.
- G2's 94 reviews emphasize ease of use and quick video creation, giving a moderate amount of independent historical feedback.
Cons
- −Free exports have a persistent Animoto watermark and limits on licensed stock assets.
- −Basic is explicitly personal-use only under the vendor's monetization guidance; business advertising can require a higher plan.
- −The Professional resale license covers end users' personal use, while commercial business resale requires Professional Plus.
- −Templates, motion controls and color grading are less flexible than advanced timeline editors; projects may look formulaic.
- −Online share links and embeds can stop working after the paid subscription lapses, despite downloaded files remaining yours.
- −Animoto does not refund unused monthly or yearly subscriptions, and plan prices must be reconfirmed because direct pricing access was blocked.
- −G2 and Capterra reviews include complaints about support, some templates and pricing; these are anecdotal reports, not reproduced defects.
