About Apify

Apify is a cloud platform for extracting publicly available web information, automating browser workflows and running reusable programs called Actors. Its Store offers both first-party and developer-built Actors for page extraction, product monitoring, site crawling, search-result research and other data gathering. Developers can build custom Actors using JavaScript or Python, browser frameworks such as Playwright and Puppeteer, and the Crawlee ecosystem. The platform handles execution, scheduling, proxy resources, retries, datasets, webhooks and API access, then sends results to downstream workflows or AI tools. An MCP server can expose selected Actors to compatible agents. The official pricing page lists Free at $0 with $5 of monthly prepaid usage, Starter at $19 per month, Scale at $199 and Business at $999, each including a matching volume of usage credit before pay-as-you-go charges; annual subscription billing receives a stated 10% price discount. For compute-based Actors the published rates are $0.20 per compute unit on Free/Starter, $0.16 on Scale and $0.13 on Business. One CU equals approximately one GB of RAM used for one hour. Some Store Actors charge per event or output instead of compute usage, and some combine event charges with separate platform resources. For example, proxy traffic can add charges, and use beyond prepaid credits is billed if the user raises the usage limit. Free use pauses once its $5 allotment is consumed; on paid plans the default usage cap likewise stops jobs at prepaid credits until a user raises the limit. Official help documents Starter's maximum platform usage limit as $100, Scale's $1,000 and Business's $5,000 per billing cycle. These are spend ceilings, not included plan credits. A high volume of blocked pages, CAPTCHA challenges, residential proxies, dynamic page rendering or failed retries can change the effective cost per usable record. Scraping also requires checking target-site terms, access rules, personal-data obligations and downstream use permissions; a platform offering a technical capability does not guarantee that every collection target is lawful or permitted. This description excludes any claim of bypassing protected controls. Buyers should test one Actor on an approved, permitted dataset, establish reliable output quality, then cap maximum billable results or spending. G2's exact Apify listing showed 4.7/5 across 697 reviews as of Nov 3, 2026; Capterra displayed 4.8/5 from 620 reviews, updated Nov 1. These user ratings do not substitute for Toollers' independent research score. Toollers has not run Actors, validated output rows or measured scraper failure/retention rates.

Best for

Data analysts, SEO teams, market researchers, ecommerce monitoring teams and developers who need scheduled website data extraction and integrations.

Apify pros and cons

Pros

  • The Actor Store offers reusable collectors before users have to write custom scrapers.
  • Custom JavaScript/Python Actors support precise data extraction and automation workflows.
  • Managed execution, schedules, APIs, datasets and proxies reduce infrastructure upkeep.
  • Free $5 usage allowance supports small proof-of-concept runs without a card.
  • Published compute-unit pricing and platform spending limits help cost planning.
  • Integrations and MCP support allow structured web data to enter downstream agents and apps.
  • Paid plans increase compute efficiency and run concurrency as volume rises.

Cons

  • −Costs vary by Actor model: per-result events, runtime compute, proxies and storage may be charged differently.
  • −Some Actors are maintained by independent developers and may require extra validation or updates.
  • −Scrapers may fail or return incomplete rows when target sites or page designs change.
  • −Scaling from $19 Starter to $199 Scale or $999 Business creates a high fixed subscription step.
  • −Technical setup and monitoring are more complex than using a closed-form research tool.
  • −Users must independently verify privacy rules, consent and target-site access rights.
  • −Unspent monthly prepaid usage expires; overage can start once account limits are raised.
