Elicit
Find and screen research papers, extract evidence into tables, and build source-linked research reports.
Research Agent, source-linked reports and structured screening/extraction are particularly deep for systematic evidence workflows.
Question-led discovery and structured templates help, but protocol design and review decisions demand research experience.
Free entry and multiple public USD grids are helpful, but segment-specific $39/$49 and $89/$229 rates impede generic pricing claims.
Source quotes, export, Zotero, API and governed review steps support auditability; no independent correctness or security audit performed.

About Elicit
Elicit, from Elicit Research, PBC, is a research assistant centered on finding scientific literature and organizing evidence from papers. Its current interface offers a Research Agent for question-led exploration, a Research Report generator for focused topic overviews, and a structured Systematic Review workflow for governed evidence gathering, screening, data extraction and reporting. According to the October 2026 help center, the older named Find Papers, Extract Data and Chat with Papers workflows became functions within Research Agent on September 30, 2026. The Basic tier permits limited Agent and Report usage, search across a claimed corpus of over 138 million papers, source inspection and Zotero import. Plus adds standard usage and export into RIS, CSV, BIB, PDF and DOCX. Pro and higher permit the dedicated Systematic Review process, including user-defined Boolean or semantic queries, uploaded papers, customizable inclusion criteria, abstract and full-text screening, data-extraction columns and an evidence-linked output. Per current vendor documentation, Pro can gather up to 5,000 papers per systematic review; Scale allows 20,000, and Enterprise 40,000. Scale supports live group editing and selected figure extraction; some dual human-review governance is Enterprise-only. The research citations and extraction quotes can support auditing, but the user must check article eligibility, missing studies, factual accuracy, risk of bias and disciplinary review standards. Elicit is not automatically a completed PRISMA-compliant review merely because its workflow generates a report. The official public pricing page has audience-dependent grids. Its first displayed annual-billing grid shows Free Basic, Plus $11 per user/month equivalent ($132 annually), Pro $39 ($468 annually), Scale $89 ($1,068 annually) and custom Enterprise. Other audience segments on the same page show Pro $49 ($588 annually) and Scale $229 ($2,748 annually), with a different usage allocation. The applicable audience selector and checkout need confirmation; these are not interchangeable universal rates. Elicit's current terms say customer cancellations generally do not refund prepaid subscriptions, although termination by Elicit other than for a terms violation has separate remedies. The March 2026 Elicit API announcement introduced preview access for Pro and team plans; updated help now specifies Pro, Scale and Enterprise for API and MCP. Research Agent can be a strong evidence-organization aid for researchers, medical librarians and analytical teams, but quoted 138M+ paper coverage does not prove every database, preprint, full text or grey-literature item is included. Searches for independent user reviews exposed a G2 listing named 'elicit' for an unrelated marketing site-search tool, which must not be attributed to Elicit Research, PBC. No exact matched G2 or Capterra rating was substantiated, so no external aggregate is invented. No Toollers researcher logged into Elicit, screened papers, replicated a systematic review, evaluated model outputs or authorized a paid checkout.
Best for
Research analysts, evidence-review teams, academic libraries, pharma and health-technology researchers who need traceable research screening and extraction, with human oversight.
Elicit pros and cons
Pros
- Research Agent and Reports combine literature search with referenced synthesis.
- The Basic tier provides broad paper searching and limited reports without a paid subscription.
- Plus exports evidence tables into common academic and document formats.
- Pro adds a dedicated systematic-review workflow, editable criteria and extraction columns.
- Screening decisions and extracted data can surface original-source evidence for checking.
- Scale supports collaboration and higher-capacity review and figure extraction.
- The vendor maintains specific help articles on paper caps, screening and workflow changes.
Cons
- −Its academic corpus and integrated databases may omit relevant grey literature or inaccessible full texts.
- −AI screening and data extraction can miss studies, misread methods or produce incorrect claims.
- −The public price page includes materially different Pro/Scale prices by audience segment.
- −Full systematic-review workflows require Pro or above, beyond the free/Plus tiers.
- −Scale and Enterprise features such as collaborative editing, figure extraction and dual reviewer differ by tier.
- −The current terms generally do not refund subscription payments after customer cancellation.
- −No exact-matched independent G2/Capterra user review aggregate could be verified; the similarly named G2 elicit listing is another company.
