Photoroom
Produce consistent ecommerce listings, AI product scenes and batch-edited photos for multiple sales channels.
Background removal, AI product staging, virtual models, brand kits, batch exports, Shopify, video and enterprise API workflows are documented and commercially specific.
G2 4.3/20 and Capterra 4.6/17 support initial ease-of-use findings, but the business user samples are small and service feedback is mixed. No Toollers test.
Vendor shows exact annual-equivalent USD rates, credit quotas and export ceilings. Separate model burn, monthly tariff visibility and multi-Space subscriptions complicate total costs.
Shopify, shared Spaces and API/MCP support business use; enterprise SSO/SOC2/SLA features are reserved for quoted contracts and have not been independently audited.

About Photoroom
Photoroom is an AI visual production platform designed around ecommerce photography and online product listings. It removes backgrounds, fixes objects, stages products in lifestyle scenes, creates virtual fashion models, builds brand-consistent assets and processes catalogs in batches. Its web and mobile apps support shared team Spaces, while a Shopify connection and API/MCP offerings extend the workflow for bigger catalogs. The current official USD yearly-billed price is $7.50 per month equivalent for Pro ($90/year), $20.99 for Max ($251.88/year), and $82.50 for Ultra ($990/year); exact month-to-month prices need a fresh checkout. Pro includes 8,000 monthly AI credits and 1,000 exports, Max 25,000 and 3,000, and Ultra 75,000 and 10,000. All three advertise unrestricted core editing within fair use limits, but advanced image/video operations spend a separate credit pool. Max adds product videos and Shopify integration; Ultra adds higher-resolution image and video work. A Space can include up to 50 people under one subscription. G2 currently displays a 4.3/5 score from 20 reviews, and Capterra lists 4.6/5 from 17, but the review sample is modest and customer-service forums contain divergent feedback. We have not performed a Toollers hands-on image, export or billing test.
Best for
Shopify and marketplace sellers, apparel brands, small creative agencies, catalog teams and retail businesses that prepare repeated product listing images at volume.
Photoroom pros and cons
Pros
- Purpose-built ecommerce image tools include product cutouts, scene generation, shadows, retouching and AI fashion models.
- Pro, Max and Ultra clearly disclose separate AI-credit and monthly export quotas, helping estimate catalog capacity.
- Unlimited core editing within fair-use rules prevents standard background removal from consuming advanced AI generation credits.
- One subscription covers a team Space of up to 50 accounts, avoiding a standard extra charge for every collaborator.
- Max brings Shopify catalog integration and product-video generation; Ultra adds larger output and batch allowances.
- G2 and Capterra reviews generally describe easy product-background workflows, although the rating samples are small.
Cons
- −A monthly export quota applies across saved assets and Shopify syncs, so standard unlimited background edits do not mean unlimited exports.
- −Credit-intensive video, guided AI backgrounds and fashion models can use different credits per run; estimates are upper bounds for one chosen model.
- −Pro excludes video generation and Shopify integration; Ultra is required for the highest-resolution workflows.
- −The official page defaults to annual-equivalent pricing, while exact current monthly-billed rates cannot be read from that display.
- −Photoroom reviews on Trustpilot include customer complaints about plan changes and batch-editor behavior; Toollers has not reproduced these reports.
- −Photoroom's Enterprise governance and SLA claims do not apply to Pro, Max or Ultra.
