MarketMuse pricing changed materially in 2026. The current official pricing page still publishes the structure and usage limits of four plans—Free, Optimize, Research and Strategy—but it no longer publishes dollar amounts for the three paid tiers. Instead, Optimize, Research and Strategy route buyers to a demo. The only numeric current official price that can be stated confidently without a quote is Free at $0. This is a major change from 2025, when MarketMuse and third-party pages were commonly associated with $99 Optimize, $249 Research and $499 Strategy. Those old numbers should not be presented as current official pricing unless a new vendor quote confirms them.

Quick verdict

MarketMuse Free remains genuinely free at $0 with one user and 10 queries per month. Optimize, Research and Strategy now require a demo/quote even though their limits are public. The biggest pricing issue is transparency, not plan structure: you can compare capacity before a sales call, but you cannot calculate current paid ROI from the official website alone.

Key takeaways

  • Free: $0, 1 user and 10 queries/month
  • Optimize: 100 tracked topics/5 briefs/1 strategy document; Research: 1,000/10/3; Strategy: 10,000/20/5, all with current paid price hidden
  • Current June 2026 terms make fees prepaid and non-refundable

The MarketMuse Toollers profile is Toollers product profile. Toollers deliberately leaves current paid numeric pricing unverified because the official page now requires a sales/demo flow. The old September 2025 Toollers pricing article is retained only as migration history.

Free: $0

MarketMuse Free is a permanent no-cost tier, not merely a seven-day demo. The current public plan table lists one user and 10 queries per month.

Free has no site inventory, tracked topics, content briefs, brief types or content strategy documents. Export is limited to saved writing.

The current pricing page also lists access to Topic Navigator, Keywords, SERP X-ray, SERP Heatmap, Site Heatmap and Connect. A separate current Research overview says Site Heatmap is Strategy-plan-and-above, so users should verify the exact Free entitlement in the application.

For a solo user evaluating MarketMuse's topic model and optimization methodology, 10 queries are enough to test a handful of real workflows.

Optimize: current price by demo/quote

Optimize is positioned for an individual publishing content regularly. It currently includes one site inventory and one user.

Usage limits are 100 tracked topics, five content briefs per month, one content strategy document per month and 100 queries per month.

Optimize includes Article briefs, exports for saved writing/applications/documents, Topic Navigator, keyword and SERP research, and current plan-level access to Site Heatmap/Connect according to the pricing table.

The crucial difference from 2025 is that there is no current public dollar price. The official CTA is “Book a demo.”

Research: current price by demo/quote

Research is the mid-sized team plan. It includes one site inventory and three users.

Capacity rises to 1,000 tracked topics, ten content briefs per month and three strategy documents per month. Queries are unlimited.

Research is the logical plan for a content team that needs many topic/competitor analyses without watching a monthly query meter.

Again, the dollar amount is not published on the current official pricing page.

Strategy: current price by demo/quote

Strategy targets agencies and large SEO/content teams. It includes five users, one site inventory, 10,000 tracked topics, twenty content briefs per month, five strategy documents per month and unlimited queries.

Strategy is also the only current tier explicitly listing access to all nine brief types: Article, Comparison, FAQ Collection, Guide, How-to, Listicle, Local, News/Event and Product Review.

MarketMuse says additional sites can be added as needed, which likely becomes part of the commercial order rather than a public self-serve price.

Why the old $99/$249/$499 prices should not be reused

Capterra's current 2026 pricing page still displays the same figures. However, G2 now lists Optimize, Research and Strategy as “Contact Us,” which aligns with MarketMuse's current official page.

For Toollers, the vendor's live pricing page is the authority. The old values remain useful historical context, but not current official rates.

What is a MarketMuse query?

A query is consumed when a user enters a focus topic into a MarketMuse application such as Research, Compete or Optimize.

Free includes 10 queries and Optimize 100 per month. Research and Strategy currently list unlimited queries.

This distinction matters because paid value is not only about tracked topics or briefs. Teams doing a high volume of exploratory research can outgrow Optimize's 100-query allowance before they hit its 100 tracked topics.

Tracked topics

Tracked topics belong to MarketMuse Inventory. They allow a site to monitor topics even when it does not currently rank for them.

Optimize includes 100, Research 1,000 and Strategy 10,000. This is one of the clearest scaling dimensions across plans.

A content team should estimate its actual cluster/topic universe before choosing a tier. A small B2B site may be comfortable with 100; a publisher can exceed 1,000 quickly.

Content brief limits

Optimize includes five content briefs per month, Research ten and Strategy twenty.

These are generated execution documents rather than simple keyword lists. Current briefs can include intent, personas, pain points, structure, topics, questions, quality guidance, competitive gaps and linking recommendations.

If a team publishes more than twenty new/optimized pages monthly, the quote should clarify overage/additional-brief options before signing.

Strategy document limits

Optimize includes one content strategy document per month, Research three and Strategy five.

Strategy documents cover larger analyses and planning workflows, such as cluster analysis, keyword/intent analysis and content quality analysis.

These limits matter most for agencies and teams running multiple strategy cycles or business units.

Users and collaboration

Optimize includes one user, Research three and Strategy five. Free also includes one user.

Teams should ask during the demo what additional users cost, whether users can be added à la carte and how permissions work at each tier.

The current public page does not publish an extra-seat price.

Site inventory

Free has no site inventory. The three paid tiers each list one site inventory.

Inventory is a major reason to pay for MarketMuse because it lets the platform analyze the site's published pages, topic relationships and personalized opportunities.

Strategy documentation says additional sites can be added as needed, but the current public page does not publish the price of extra inventories/sites.

Free trial

MarketMuse's current pricing page includes a “Start my free trial” CTA, and G2 lists a free trial. However, the current official page does not clearly publish a universal trial duration or credit-card requirement.

Older Toollers content says seven days, but that should not be repeated as a current official fact without a fresh checkout confirmation.

The permanent Free plan is the safest documented evaluation path.

Default subscription term

Siteimprove's June 2026 Subscription Services Agreement says the subscription term is the period stated in the applicable order. If the order does not state otherwise, the default term is one month.

This is important because sales-led plans may have negotiated annual or other commercial terms. The order overrides the default.

Cancellation

Either party can cancel the subscription by providing notice. Cancellation stops renewal after the current subscription term.

The customer retains access through the end of that term, assuming no separate termination for breach.

The exact operational cancellation process should be confirmed in the sales/order documentation because the public terms describe legal effect rather than a self-service button flow.

Refunds

Current terms say all fees are prepaid and non-refundable. Customers are not entitled to a refund or credit for the unused portion of the term after cancellation.

The agreement contains narrow remedies for situations such as an uncured material breach, but routine buyer's-remorse or unused-time refunds are not provided.

That policy makes the demo, Free plan and order review especially important before a long prepaid commitment.

Taxes and invoice terms

Unless stated otherwise, fees are in U.S. dollars and exclude applicable sales, use, VAT and similar taxes.

Paid-plan invoices and payment terms are controlled by the applicable order, which is another reason Toollers does not invent a standard annual discount or per-seat rate.

Current Siteimprove terms say MarketMuse AI features may use OpenAI/ChatGPT and Amazon Bedrock. Those capabilities can be modified or discontinued if underlying providers or constraints change.

The terms also make customers responsible for evaluating AI output and for not submitting personal data into AI features.

This is not a separate public price line today, but it is a contract consideration for organizations evaluating MarketMuse in regulated or sensitive-data workflows.

True-cost questions to ask during the demo

Because current paid pricing is hidden, buyers should use the sales call to establish the total contract cost, not only the base tier.

Ask for the price of additional users, additional sites/inventories, extra content briefs, extra strategy documents and any professional/onboarding services.

Also ask whether the quote is monthly or annual, whether there is a minimum term, whether capacity can be reduced mid-term and whether plan limits reset monthly.

Which MarketMuse tier fits which buyer?

Who should use this

  • Free fits individuals evaluating topic research and occasional optimization
  • Optimize fits one-person content operations needing one site inventory, 100 tracked topics and five briefs/month
  • Research fits teams needing unlimited queries, three users and 1,000 tracked topics
  • Strategy fits agencies/large teams needing 10,000 tracked topics, all brief types and larger monthly strategy capacity

Who should avoid this

  • Do not choose a paid tier based on old $99/$249/$499 pricing
  • Do not buy Optimize if 100 monthly queries will constrain research
  • Do not choose Strategy only for brief volume without pricing the full sales quote
  • Budget-sensitive teams should compare self-serve alternatives before entering a quote-based contract

Pricing pros and cons

Pros

  • Permanent $0 Free plan is clearly documented
  • Paid plan limits are unusually detailed even though prices are hidden
  • Research and Strategy include unlimited queries
  • Current terms clearly document cancellation and refund treatment
  • Free lets buyers test the methodology before a demo

Cons

  • No current public dollar pricing for paid tiers
  • No published additional-user/site/brief price
  • Historical third-party prices can confuse buyers
  • Non-refundable terms increase commitment risk
  • Official documentation conflicts on some Free-plan application entitlements

Expert tip

Go into the MarketMuse demo with your actual monthly numbers: users, queries, tracked topics, briefs, sites and strategy documents. Ask for a written quote that maps each limit to your forecast and shows add-on/overage prices. That turns a vague sales-led plan into a comparable total-cost model.
