Luma AI

Direct image, video and audio creation through a multimodal AI workspace with Ray and UNI models.

Research-based score
4.1
Research-based score
Features and capabilities4.7

Ray3.2 production controls, UNI-1.1, agentic boards, multi-model orchestration and API options provide unusually broad creative direction capabilities.

Usability and implementation4.1

Workspace and reference guidance may streamline editing, but there are no representative current-app G2/Capterra reviews and no Toollers generation trial.

Pricing and value transparency3.7

Plus/Pro/Ultra monthly and annual totals are clear on canonical pricing; a conflicting vendor FAQ and credit expiry make exact cost-per-clip less certain.

Integrations, security and trust4.0

Commercial Plus, shared Team controls, SSO and distinct API/SDKs aid integration, while image rights, spend limits and model-level review remain important.

About Luma AI

Luma AI is the Luma creative workspace for generating and modifying video and images with coordinated AI agents. Its current flagship video system is Ray3.2, which supports text-to-video, image-to-video, reference-guided sequences, multi-keyframe control, video modification and reframing. The current image/multimodal model is UNI-1.1, which can generate and edit images with references and natural-language direction. Luma Agents can plan and iterate across image, video and audio tools while keeping a project's visual context together. The workspace also offers supported third-party models, guest editing and creative boards. Luma's official up-to-date model reference explicitly says that older Dream Machine, Ray2 and Photon branding is deprecated, so pricing for the former Dream Machine plans must not be used as current Luma App prices. The canonical plans are Plus at $30/month or $300/year ($25/month equivalent), Pro at $90/month or $900/year ($75/month equivalent), and Ultra at $300/month or $3,000/year ($250/month equivalent). Pro states four times the Luma Agents usage of Plus and Ultra fifteen times, with commercial use included from Plus. Team and Enterprise are quote-based. Luma's FAQ contains an internal inconsistency, reversing the names of its $30 and $90 plans, so this profile follows the canonical pricing page and does not claim a precise subscription credit count without checkout confirmation. Monthly plan credits expire; failed generations automatically refund credits. An independent usage-based API for Ray3.2 and UNI-1.1 is billed separately from Luma App subscriptions. G2 review pages labeled Luma AI and Luma Dream Machine each have one review but concern historical 3D and legacy Dream Machine products, respectively; neither establishes meaningful satisfaction data for the current Luma Agents workspace. Toollers has not generated sample clips or run an API job.

Best for

Video and creative agencies, marketers, indie filmmakers, production artists and technical teams building controlled AI-generated scenes or multimodal workflows.

Luma AI pros and cons

Pros

  • Ray3.2 offers richer video direction with multi-keyframe references, modification and reframing across creative variants.
  • UNI-1.1 supports reference-guided image generation and language-directed image editing within the same environment.
  • Luma Agents can coordinate image, video and audio models in connected boards rather than requiring isolated one-shot prompts.
  • The plan page publishes simple USD monthly and yearly totals for Plus, Pro and Ultra, with commercial rights listed on Plus.
  • Higher tiers disclose relative agent-usage scaling: Pro 4x Plus and Ultra 15x Plus, helping teams compare scope.
  • Enterprise/Team shared credits, SSO and usage analytics plus separate production APIs support professional pipeline use.

Cons

  • −At $30/month entry and $90/month Pro, regular video experimentation can become expensive compared with occasional-generation tools.
  • −Unused monthly app credits do not roll over; repeated retries or premium model choices can exhaust an allocation.
  • −Luma's separate official FAQ swaps Plus and Pro names against its canonical pricing page, so per-tier credit totals need checkout validation.
  • −A separate Ray/UNI API budget is necessary for developers and cannot be assumed to come out of an App subscription.
  • −Older Dream Machine Ray2/Photon guides and user reviews describe deprecated products and may lead buyers to wrong capabilities or terms.
  • −Photo or video continuity, human motion and production-level output cannot be assured without testing the chosen model, prompt and scene.

Alternatives to Luma AI

Luma AI — frequently asked questions

What is Luma AI used for?
The current Luma App generates and modifies images/videos with Ray3.2 and UNI-1.1, with agents that coordinate creative workflows and other supported models.
How much does Luma AI cost?
Canonical App pricing is Plus $30/month or $300/year, Pro $90/month or $900/year, and Ultra $300/month or $3,000/year. Team and Enterprise require quotes.
Is Luma Dream Machine the current product?
No. Luma's official model reference says Dream Machine and Ray2 are deprecated, and Ray3.2 and UNI-1.1 are the current video and image foundations.
Does Luma AI provide free access?
The new-app FAQ describes trying Luma for free before selecting a plan, but does not confirm a perpetual free subscription with fixed credits. Free eligibility must be checked in the app.
What is the difference between Luma Plus and Pro?
Plus is $30/month on the pricing page; Pro is $90/month and advertises four times the Luma Agents usage compared with Plus. An older Luma FAQ reverses their names, so use checkout to verify allocation.
Do Luma AI credits roll over?
No. The April 2026 billing policy says remaining monthly plan credits expire at the close of that cycle, and credits for failed generations are returned automatically.
Does a Luma subscription include Ray3.2 API usage?
No. The Luma App subscription and Luma Agents API have separate billing. Developers should model per-generation API charges independently.
Are Luma AI images and videos available for commercial use?
The current canonical pricing page explicitly includes commercial use with Plus; Pro and Ultra inherit Plus features. Check the current terms for input rights, brand restrictions and usage of uploaded media.
