Quick verdict

Runway Creative has a one-time 125-credit Free allocation and published Standard, Pro, Max and Team plans. On 28 October 2026, Standard is $15 monthly or $12 per month billed annually, Pro is $35 or $28, and Max is $95 or $76. Team costs $69 per seat monthly or $55 per seat annually billed and pools 6,900 credits per seat. The critical cost variable is credits consumed by the actual models, not simply the subscription fee.

Key takeaways

  • Free 125 credits once and no routine monthly refill; Standard 625 credits/mo at $15 monthly or $12 annual equivalent; Pro 2,250 credits/mo at $35 or $28; Max 9,500 credits/mo at $95 or $76 plus one-month rollover; Team $69 per seat monthly or $55 annual equivalent, two to nine seats with 6,900 pooled credits per seat; Enterprise custom; model rates differ; Gen-4.5 12 credits per generated second; purchased credits do not expire; standard paid-plan credits generally reset; Runway Dev API uses separate credits; legacy Unlimited is being retired; storage conflict between live Pro page and help guide requires confirmation.

How much does Runway cost?

Runway Creative offers a permanently free entry level with a limited one-time credit allocation, three publicly priced individual paid plans, a per-seat Team option and custom Enterprise agreements. The most important pricing detail is that subscriptions purchase a monthly credit budget, not a fixed number of finished commercial advertisements. A ten-second generated clip that must be rerun five times can consume far more than a single successful short clip.

See the Runway Tool profile for its current overview and related information.

As checked on 28 October 2026, the official Runway pricing page lists Standard at $15 per month or $12 per month equivalent when paid annually, Pro at $35 or $28, and Max at $95 or $76. Annual pricing is a monthly equivalent of an annual commitment rather than an option to pay just $12 for one month. The Team page separately lists $69 per seat per month or $55 per seat per month when billed annually. Enterprise pricing is negotiated.

This table draws individual plan and storage values from Runway's live marketing pricing page, and Team values from its separate live Team page. One Runway Help article still describes 500 GB under Pro, whereas the main pricing page currently shows 100 GB for Pro and 500 GB for Max. That is a genuine discrepancy in the vendor's own documentation. Buyers whose workflow depends on asset storage should screenshot the selected checkout terms and obtain written confirmation rather than treating either page as an ironclad guarantee.

Free: an evaluation allocation, not a production budget

Runway Free costs nothing but includes 125 credits granted once. The vendor explicitly says this is not a recurring monthly allocation. It supports selected models rather than the full paid catalogue and lists 5 GB of asset storage. It can help someone get familiar with the interface or test a limited idea, but it cannot be planned as a monthly free video production stream. Runway says separately purchased credits cannot be bought while remaining on the Free subscription.

When evaluating the free plan, check which models are available at that moment and what export limitations apply. A comparison such as '125 credits equals two five-second Gen-4.5 clips' is mathematically tempting but misleading if Gen-4.5 is not enabled in Free. Budget using the allowed model's actual rate shown in the interface, and do not assume you can replenish the grant by waiting for the next billing cycle.

Standard: entry-level paid creative testing

Standard provides 625 credits every month. At the official Gen-4.5 rate of 12 credits per second, that can theoretically cover about 52 seconds of model output if every credit is spent on that one model. A more practical example is ten distinct five-second generations at 60 credits each, leaving 25 credits. Those are generated seconds, not guaranteed finished commercial-quality seconds, and do not include alternative models, sound, image iterations or post-processing.

The plan page advertises all AI video/image models, an agentic creative collaborator, App Studio, Runway Ads, selected audio generation, no watermarks, 4K upscaling, 20 GB storage and up to three projects. A freelancer or marketer creating a small number of campaign ideas each month might start here. If every concept requires repeated revisions, however, the allowance can run out quickly.

Pro: a larger creative allowance and brand tools

Pro increases the included monthly allocation to 2,250 credits, about 3.6 times Standard's credits. At the same 12-credit Gen-4.5 rate, it represents 187.5 theoretical seconds or 37 complete five-second generations before other expenses. The live plan page lists five projects, one Brand Kit, one custom voice clone, expanded parallel generation, Runway MCP access and higher video-upscaling entitlements.

Pro makes sense for a regularly active creator or small team producing several campaigns. The key decision is whether the additional $20 per month on monthly billing, compared with Standard, buys enough usable capacity. If a user spends only 500 credits in a typical month, Pro's additional capacity may be wasted because standard included credits reset. If a user routinely needs more than 625, Pro can reduce frequent top-up purchases.

Storage warning: Runway's current public pricing page shows 100 GB under Pro, but its Pro help article says 500 GB. We are recording the conflict rather than silently selecting whichever number makes the offer look better. Ask support to confirm the allowance tied to your specific checkout, plan version and renewal date.

Max: higher-volume individual production

Max lists 9,500 credits each month, an increased number of parallel generations, up to ten projects, up to three Brand Kits and custom voice clones, and 500 GB storage on the current pricing page. It adds access to studio-grade delivery formats, including HDR, ProRes or image sequences where applicable, plus early access to some models. Its ability to roll unused credits for one month distinguishes it from Standard and Pro.

At 12 credits per Gen-4.5 second, 9,500 credits represent about 791 seconds of theoretical output, subject to model and duration controls. Because this is a paid individual plan, a solo creator with substantial regular workload could receive a lower effective cost per credit than on Pro. A marketer who needs only sporadic short clips should avoid paying for high volume simply because the plan is described as 'best value.' Value depends on actual use of the allocation.

Do not confuse Max with the retired Unlimited plan. Runway's migration notice says the new Max option was introduced on 1 June 2026 and Unlimited stopped accepting new subscribers. Eligible legacy users retain their prior arrangements until 30 November 2026 under announced migration conditions. Max has a large credit allotment and limited rollover; it does not mean an unrestricted number of premium generations.

Team: pooled credits and real collaboration

Runway Team starts with two seats and is described for two to nine users. Every seat adds 6,900 monthly credits to a pooled workspace balance. At $69 per seat on monthly billing, a two-seat configuration has a $138 monthly list amount and a combined 13,800 monthly credits. At $55 per seat monthly equivalent on annual billing, the same two seats represent $110 per month equivalent and $1,320 in annual base fees, before taxes and add-ons.

The team offering includes shared projects, frame-based comments, mentions, a shared credit pool with one-month rollover, up to 100 shared projects and 1 TB of workspace storage according to the Team page. It also advertises shared agent skills, connectors and priority support. These features matter if a creative director, editor and advertiser must coordinate; one person can review an output while another generates replacements without mailing versions of media back and forth.

Credits are pooled, which means heavy usage by one contributor affects the balance remaining for everyone. Set workspace-level spend and output expectations. A central queue for campaign priorities and approval thresholds can protect teams against exhausting the pool on low-priority experiments. Confirm the exact per-seat invoice when changing seat counts or billing cadence.

Enterprise: contractual operations, security and support

Enterprise is quoted individually. The Team page describes an offering for organizations that need larger or more complex workspaces, single sign-on, roles and permissions, governance over third-party models and additional legal or support arrangements. Rather than assuming that every feature is included by default, send procurement a list of required controls, data handling restrictions, team geography, export needs and expected monthly generation volumes.

Enterprise may be justified when approved content must be handled under a signed security agreement, or when many staff need centrally managed access. The published pages are not a substitute for an order form identifying the model catalogue, credits, billing, priority support, intellectual-property terms and remedies that apply to your organization.

How Runway credits actually work

Runway credits are units deducted for generating or transforming media. A model's rate may depend on footage duration, resolution, chosen mode and additional processing. The official credit guide explains the order of consumption: current monthly plan credits first, then rollover credits, followed by separately purchased credits. This matters when forecasting whether purchased capacity will last through a quieter month.

Gen-4.5 is listed at 12 credits per second. Its published five-second example uses 60 credits, and a ten-second example would therefore consume 120 credits at the same rate if that duration is available. Aleph 2.0 editing is listed at 140 credits for a five-second example, a much higher cost for the same clip duration. Generative image models may charge credits per image rather than per second. Select a real model and operation before estimating production cost.

Generation costs represent attempts. A team might produce six five-second versions of a scene to obtain one approved shot. At 60 credits each, those six Gen-4.5 attempts use 360 credits before editing, upscaling, sound or any other asset. Standard's 625 credits would have 265 left for the rest of the month. A marketing department that budgets one generation per final asset would underestimate its likely consumption.

How many Runway videos can you make?

Consider a controlled example: five-second Gen-4.5 generations only, at 60 credits per attempt, with no other credit usage and no carryover. Standard's 625 credits support ten such attempts, Pro's 2,250 support 37, and Max's 9,500 support 158. The annual pricing-page examples use total annual credit allotments to report a larger number of theoretical generations per year. They do not guarantee the clips are coherent, usable or successfully published.

For Aleph 2.0, a five-second transformation appears at 140 credits in the vendor table. The same credit budgets support at most four Standard, sixteen Pro and sixty-seven Max attempts if all credits go to that operation. This gap illustrates why a marketer should budget by model and task rather than by 'number of videos.' The output duration ceiling also means that a longer advertisement may require several generated shots stitched together.

Runway's model selection changes over time. Some third-party models have different rates or usage restrictions. An ad that needs synchronized audio, specific characters, translated copy and product detail may require a combination of models. Test several representative shots, calculate observed average credit spend per approved second, and update the budget from that real number.

What happens when credits run out?

Runway's pricing FAQ says paid individual users can buy more credits in the billing area, with a minimum purchase of 1,000 credits. The currently stated policy says purchased credits do not expire. Standard and Pro included credits generally reset within approximately 24 hours of the billing date and do not roll forward. Max and Team allow unused monthly plan credits to roll over for one additional month, subject to the vendor's specific calculation.

When credits are nearly exhausted, an owner can lower the creative resolution for drafts, use less expensive models for early concept tests, shorten sequences and postpone nice-to-have variations. The point is to reduce rejected output, not to sacrifice a campaign's legal or brand review. A top-up purchase is rational only if the expected deliverable or learning justifies it.

Runway Creative versus Runway Dev API pricing

Runway sells a separate developer product for programmatic video, image and audio model access. Its developer model index lists API rates for supported models, and the help center explicitly states Creative workspace plan credits do not transfer to Runway Dev API. A company building a feature into its website or application needs an API cost model and account setup in addition to any seats for its designers.

This is easy to miss if the marketing team already has thousands of unused browser credits. Those credits cannot simply fund automated generation inside an app. Likewise, an API price per generated second is not always directly comparable with the Creative interface credit rate, especially if API models, resolution levels or service fees differ. Request separate forecasts for interactive creative use and backend automated production.

Does Runway offer a free trial?

Runway offers a Free plan, which is not identical to a paid-plan trial. The Free plan's 125 one-time credits do not replenish, and availability is limited to selected models. There may be separate sales-led evaluations for larger customers, but a general paid trial duration and conversion rule should not be assumed unless it appears in the user's specific offer. Confirm whether payment details are required for any promotion and what will happen at its end.

Because the platform includes third-party models and changing entitlements, a useful proof of concept should cover the actual creative outputs the team plans to make. If a paid feature is excluded from Free, ask whether it can be demonstrated with representative input assets before buying a large annual commitment.

Runway alternatives and their pricing models

Adobe Firefly publishes creative AI plans and credits with integration into Adobe's editing products. Pika publishes a Free plan plus paid credit tiers and a commercial-license distinction. Google Flow offers a limited free quota and additional access through Google AI subscriptions. Luma also charges via model-dependent credits and has separate subscription and API systems. HeyGen publishes avatar-focused plans. Those costs only make sense after comparing the same requested output format and usage rights.

A lower subscription may be the right solution for a single purpose. A team making spokesperson videos may buy an avatar tool rather than Runway Max. A creative department already invested in Adobe may prefer an integrated editor workflow. A cinematic concept team can compare Runway, Pika, Google Flow and Luma on controllability and the number of successful clips per dollar, not on published monthly credits alone.

Runway pricing mistakes to avoid

Confusing one-time Free credits with a monthly grant

The free allocation is deposited once. Do not multiply 125 by twelve to forecast 1,500 free credits each year. If regular output is required, plan for a paid subscription or another approved creative workflow.

Comparing credit counts across different vendors

A Runway credit is not the same unit as an Adobe Firefly, Pika, Luma or Google Flow credit. Each provider sets its own rates by model, duration and task. Divide actual fees by completed, approved assets in a controlled test, and record the number of attempts per usable output.

Assuming Max provides unlimited generation

Max is a high-volume monthly credit plan with limited rollover. Legacy Unlimited is in transition and not offered for new subscriptions. Old reviews using 'Unlimited' may describe a different queueing and credit model. Confirm the plan date and the account's specific migration terms.

Overlooking storage and collaboration requirements

Individual plans have project and storage limits; a team working across many clients may need Team's shared workspace. The conflicting Pro storage documents make confirmation especially important. Do not assume an individual Pro account allows several employees to share one password or access a unified credit pool.

Ignoring commercial rights and marketing compliance

Runway permits commercial use of generated content under its terms, but that does not resolve ownership of source footage, training consent for voice clones, music rights, false product claims or ad-platform policy. Legal review and human approval are costs of delivering a lawful campaign, regardless of the software subscription.

Which Runway plan should you choose?

Choose Free to understand the interface and the limits of a selected model. Choose Standard for relatively light solo creative work and early campaign exploration. Choose Pro when a regular workload clearly exceeds 625 credits or brand and voice tools are valuable. Choose Max for heavy individual output with predictable monthly use and rollover value. Choose Team when at least two staff need shared assets, comments and pooled capacity. Choose Enterprise when formal administration, security or contractual controls become essential.

Before purchase, create a shot-level budget. Estimate five-second generations, likely rework attempts, image reference iterations, video transformations, audio finishing and export needs. Use the vendor's current model rate table for each. Compare the resulting monthly credits with actual tiers, add the cost of appropriate human review, and keep a buffer for failed generations. This provides a more defensible plan decision than choosing from monthly price alone.

Final verdict on Runway pricing

Runway's published self-service rates are transparent, but the real production cost remains variable because different models consume credits at different rates. Standard is accessible for light use; Pro expands monthly capacity; Max adds high-volume credits and rollover; and Team is a separate collaborative subscription. The Pro storage inconsistency and ongoing Unlimited migration make date-sensitive verification necessary. Select from a representative generation budget, not a theoretical best-case clip count.
