Remote Review: Features, Pricing and Fit
Explore Remote review details, key features, pricing limits, business fit and important alternatives using current vendor documentation.

Remote documents Global Payroll, EOR, contractor services and a US PEO in one platform, with country-specific compliance and unified HR workflows; contracts, entities and service scope differ by product.
A review of ten visible 2026 G2 submissions found favorable remarks on onboarding, payslips and support, alongside reports of unintuitive screens, payout delays and occasional support friction; no Toollers hands-on trial occurred.
Public starting fees include $29/employee/month for payroll and $599/employee/month for EOR, but country specifics, minimums, reserve requirements and payroll implementation charges require a quote.
Official documentation identifies BambooHR, Workday, HiBob, Xero, QuickBooks and NetSuite integrations; its trust center lists ISO 27001 and SOC 2 Type 2 materials, but certifications are vendor-disclosed rather than independently audited by Toollers.
Scored by Vishal Singh
Remote is a serious option for organizations that hire and pay people across borders, particularly when one team needs several employment models. Its biggest distinction is not a single payroll screen: it combines employer-of-record (EOR) employment, payroll for customers with their own entities, contractor administration, and contractor-of-record services. We would shortlist it when HR and finance are spending too much time reconciling country-specific processes, but we would not purchase from the starting-price headline alone. The legal hiring model determines both the service and the bill. This is a research-based Remote review, not a report of Toollers conducting a hands-on implementation.

For the underlying product record and available metadata, see the Remote profile on Toollers. This article explains which published claims are supported, which tradeoffs matter, and what an experienced buyer should validate in a vendor demonstration.
What is Remote?
Remote Technologies, Inc. markets a global workforce platform that connects employee records, international payroll, legal employment services and contractor payments. A buyer may already have a local legal entity in Germany, for example, while lacking one in another country. These are fundamentally different operating situations. The first may call for global payroll processing; the second may need EOR employment or another lawful local solution. Remote positions both under a shared platform, with country and service eligibility determining what can actually be purchased.
That product breadth is useful, but it can create a false impression that every worker belongs in one plan. An employee directly employed by your organization, an individual engaged as an independent contractor and someone employed by Remote on your behalf are not interchangeable categories. Contracts, statutory benefits, taxes, rights over intellectual property and dismissal obligations differ. Buyers should first map each worker to an authorized relationship, then evaluate software workflow convenience. Remote's own pricing page separates these service lines, which is the correct starting point for a responsible comparison.
Remote describes an underlying platform with reporting, document management, onboarding and global payments. This can reduce the need to relay the same employee information through unrelated vendors. However, a broad product menu is not evidence that every feature or integration works identically in every country. Availability, data permissions, customer obligations and payroll cutoffs must be scoped during implementation.
How we researched and evaluated Remote
On 2026-10-27 UTC, we checked Remote's official pricing page, Global Payroll and EOR product explanations, its contractor subscription billing article, management-fee guidance, integration and security pages. We also examined the product match and recurring sentiment on G2 and Capterra, without treating those independent-user comments as our own test observations. The comparison focused on business fit, legally appropriate engagement model, cost transparency, workflow coverage, integration documentation and identifiable procurement risk. We did not create an account, run payroll, hire an employee, pay a contractor or inspect a live customer tenant.
Testing methodology
Our assessment of expected usability is therefore limited. We can discuss documented actions such as approving invoices and syncing time or employee data; we cannot say that setup took a certain number of minutes, that a payroll result was accurate in our trial, or that support handled our own case well. A procurement team should run a scenario-specific proof of process, preferably with representatives from payroll, HR, legal, information security and finance.
Core features and what they mean for a buyer
Feature Breakdown
Gross-to-net processing and statutory remittances where the customer owns an entity
Local employment arrangement in supported countries without customer-owned entity
Customer-held contractor agreement, onboarding, invoicing and active-contractor billing
Remote-drafted agreements and defined indemnity subject to terms and caps
Remote-held contract with usage-based fee and minimum
US-focused payroll, benefits and HR/compliance support subject to eligibility
Published HRIS/finance connectors, multi-country views and audit workflows
Global Payroll for existing employer entities
Remote says its Global Payroll product performs local gross-to-net calculations, remits statutory taxes and contributions and syncs time off, expenses and time data. A finance lead running payroll in several countries could use country, entity and cost-center reporting instead of consolidating local provider files by hand. That is a plausible workflow benefit drawn from documentation, not a measured Toollers result. Critically, this product does not itself remove the need for your employing entity; it assumes you already have one. Ask who owns payroll approvals, error corrections, bank funding and statutory filings in each country.
Employer of Record for unsupported entity footprint
Remote's EOR service is positioned for hiring without creating your own entity in each supported country. Remote provides the local legal employer arrangement, employee onboarding, payroll, benefits administration and access to local support, while the customer controls the employee's work. That separation matters for fast expansion, but it also means contract terms, benefits choices, immigration eligibility, local works-council requirements and termination costs need careful review. Remote advertises 90-plus supported countries on its pricing page; coverage for the exact location and worker category must be confirmed in a quote.
Contractor Management and invoicing
For genuine independent contractors, Remote documents localized contract templates, onboarding, invoice approval, payments and compliance screening. Under standard Contractor Management, the contract remains between the customer and contractor. Remote's billing help explains that the $29 monthly subscription is associated with active billable contractors, rather than every contact in a database. This is attractive for variable contractor rosters, yet the service does not transform a misclassified worker into a lawful contractor. The classification assessment remains a distinct prerequisite.
Contractor Management Plus and its risk boundaries
Contractor Management Plus adds Remote-drafted contracts and a defined misclassification indemnity. The vendor describes a $100,000 per-contractor limit for eligible penalties, with a $1 million company aggregate over the term, subject to service warranty, scope and exclusions. Those figures are contract provisions, not an unconditional guarantee. They should prompt a legal review of coverage triggers and exclusions. A team with low-risk, intermittent engagements may not need the subscription upgrade; a team with complex cross-border contracts may value the document support but must still examine the underlying relationship.
Contractor of Record changes who holds the contract
Remote says its Contractor of Record option contracts with the independent contractor and handles payment administration. This differs from the two customer-held-contract options above. The headline starts at $325 per contractor per month, but the current help-center billing article describes the actual management charge as 15% of the contractor's invoice with a $325 minimum. For a high-value engagement, the percentage can materially exceed the headline. We consider that one of the most important financial distinctions in Remote's product family; request a sample invoice for your actual contractor payment size.
US PEO and a shared HR platform
Remote also advertises a US professional employer organization service from $99 per employee monthly with US banking requirements and HR/compliance support. A PEO co-employment framework is not the same as EOR hiring in a country where you have no entity. Buyers with only domestic US payroll may find the PEO product more relevant than the international offerings, but should separately compare benefits choices, eligibility, workers' compensation arrangements and terms with US specialists. The common Remote Platform may help centralize records across these services; still verify which controls are included with the contracted products.
Integrations, reporting and data handling
Remote's official integration pages identify connections for Workday, BambooHR, HiBob and Personio as HR systems and NetSuite, Xero and QuickBooks in financial workflows. Its Global Payroll product page says data can flow into accounting and HR processes and that reports can be organized by country and cost center. This is relevant when the finance team needs general-ledger exports and HR needs one employee record. An integration listing, however, is not an implementation specification. Ask which records are authoritative, whether sync is one-way or two-way, which countries and payroll products are covered, and how historical adjustments are handled.
For security, Remote publicly claims ISO 27001 certification, SOC 2 compliance, multi-factor authentication and single sign-on. These are vendor-stated controls; Toollers has not examined the current audit report, assessed control effectiveness or performed a penetration test. Security-conscious organizations should request the relevant report and scope, subprocessor information, data location and retention policies, incident notification terms, and role-based access demonstration. Payroll and identity data is unusually sensitive, so documented certifications should begin due diligence rather than end it.
Remote pricing at a glance
| Service | Monthly billing | Annual equivalent | Unit and condition |
|---|---|---|---|
| Global Payroll | From $29/mo | Not separately disclosed | Per employee with own local entity |
| Employer of Record | Standard $699/mo | From $599/mo on annual contract | Per employee in supported country |
| Contractor Management | From $29/mo | Not separately disclosed | Per active contractor |
| Contractor Management Plus | From $99/mo | Not separately disclosed | Per contractor with defined indemnity |
| Contractor of Record | 15% of invoice; $325 minimum | Not separately disclosed | Per contracted contractor per month |
| US PEO | From $99/mo | Not separately disclosed | Per US employee; eligibility applies |
All amounts above are vendor-listed US-dollar rates checked on 2026-10-27 UTC, not an all-in landed cost. The EOR $599 headline is tied to an annual contract, while Remote's help center lists a standard $699 monthly EOR management fee. The published Global Payroll floor is $29 per employee monthly, but country or implementation charges require a proposal. The basic contractor plan is billed after active usage; Plus is billed ahead, including inactive months; Contractor of Record uses the greater of its percentage formula and minimum fee. Salaries, taxes, benefits, reserves, FX conversions and payment-related items are not included in these management-fee examples. The sheet's unverified price field should not be treated as a signed quote.
Remote's current main pricing page states that no standard setup or onboarding fee is charged, while country-localized pricing material has described payroll entity implementation fees. We cannot resolve whether that is a changed policy, product-specific exception or page-update mismatch from public documentation alone. Ask for the fee schedule in the order form, including any payroll implementation, annual reporting, off-cycle changes and entity-level charge. Neither the Toollers score nor a vendor-advertised starting price establishes that a particular quote is affordable.
Advantages and limitations
Pros
- Separate legal employment models in one published product family
- Local gross-to-net payroll and statutory filings described for existing entities
- Active-use billing in basic Contractor Management
- Published HRIS and accounting integrations
- Vendor-published ISO 27001 and SOC 2 claims for due diligence
Cons
- EOR annual pricing commitment differs from monthly rate
- Country and worker eligibility require case-by-case confirmation
- Contractor of Record can cost more than the $325 minimum
- Employer-funded pay, taxes, FX and reserves complicate total-cost forecasts
- Third-party reviewers report uneven support and payment experiences
The strongest reason to shortlist Remote is workflow breadth. A growing organization could start with EOR for one country, direct payroll where it later establishes an entity, and contractor management for a separate eligible relationship. The main risk is assuming a consistent operational or commercial model simply because all workflows share a logo. A strong buying process compares each employment model independently and sets escalation ownership for payroll corrections.
Who should and should not use Remote?
Who should use this
- HR and finance teams coordinating existing international employing entities
- Employers entering supported countries without their own entity
- Organizations paying genuine contractors across multiple markets
- Buyers willing to manage legal and finance review of country-specific terms
Who should avoid this
- Single-country small businesses that need only inexpensive domestic payroll
- Buyers demanding a fixed all-inclusive quote without country-specific scope
- Teams that cannot evaluate worker classification or manage local employment obligations
- Organizations unwilling to verify implementation, FX, reserves, and support terms
A distributed startup may value getting EOR employment established in a country where it lacks an entity. A mature company with many existing entities could focus on Global Payroll instead. A domestic US business with ten employees should compare Gusto, ADP RUN and Paychex Flex before paying for an international operating model it will not use. Conversely, a buyer with regulated cross-border employment should not select a domestic payroll-only tool merely because its monthly base fee appears lower.
What do Remote users report?
G2's Remote listing collects feedback across categories such as EOR, payroll, contractor management and global employment. Its thematic summaries frequently identify approachable navigation and helpful support, while other reviewers report support delays, payroll or payment concerns and frustration with specific workflows. Capterra similarly includes accounts of successful international hiring and accounts describing difficulties with money-related handoffs between employer and service provider. These are attributed patterns from self-selecting platform users, not controlled benchmarking or a guarantee that any new customer will encounter the same result.
We did not blend review-site stars into the Toollers score. Review volume and subcategory mix can change, some G2 entries identify incentivized participation, and a contractor's experience may differ from the paying HR administrator's experience. Before signing, request references that match your exact countries, service lines and organization size. Ask how Remote handles delayed payroll files, statutory corrections, benefit enrollment errors and escalations across legal-entity boundaries. Those questions speak directly to the reported variation in service experiences.
Editorial score and the evidence gap
The attached Toollers export carries a research-based editorial score of 4.3, but no verified criterion-level breakdown or named score reviewer. The review page may display that score from the linked Tool record. We have not created a new score or represented it as a measured hands-on grade, and we omit a rating-breakdown widget because its components were not provided. The export additionally labels the Tool tested while its own FAQ explicitly states that no Toollers hands-on session or human sign-off exists. This discrepancy must be resolved before representing the review as independently tested.
Alternatives worth considering
Deel Payroll is the closest catalog comparison for multi-country payroll, but the buyer must assess Deel's Global Payroll and EOR offerings separately. Rippling combines global payroll and EOR services with a broader employee-data and IT/finance platform. For domestic US payroll, Gusto, ADP RUN and Paychex Flex address narrower but frequently more suitable workloads. These are verified catalog profiles, not claims that every vendor replaces Remote's full international suite.
When comparing providers, ask every finalist to quote the same worker roster, countries, contract terms, funding method, FX method, support hours and first-year plus second-year costs. Disqualify plans that cannot legally serve a key location or worker relationship before comparing software conveniences. A seemingly cheaper contractor tool is not a legitimate alternative to EOR employment when the person must be hired as an employee.
Our practical evaluation advice
Start with a country-by-country employment matrix: planned headcount, entity ownership, legal worker type, payroll cycle, expected payment currency, required benefits, termination process and current accounting system. Then ask Remote to walk through onboarding one employee, correcting one gross-to-net item, paying one contractor, reconciling one invoice and exporting a month-end ledger. Obtain the complete process and service-level promises in writing. This is an editorial procurement checklist, not an attributed expert interview or documentation of a completed Toollers trial.
Final verdict
Remote merits a shortlist for organizations whose international hiring reality spans more than one type of worker or country. Its official documentation supports substantive EOR, Global Payroll, contractor and US PEO offerings, and public integration and security information provide useful starting material for due diligence. What we cannot certify from desk research is implementation effort, payroll accuracy, support reliability or the final all-in rate for a specific team. These must be validated with a scoped vendor demonstration and legal-commercial review. Remote may be an excellent operational fit, but it is not a substitute for deciding the correct employing arrangement in each jurisdiction.
Sources and research limitations
Sources were checked 2026-10-27 UTC. The official product pages are authoritative for current advertised services and numbers; billing-help articles explain additional terms; G2 and Capterra supply attributed public feedback. Product scope, local regulations, promotions, available countries and specific contractual terms may change. Toollers has not purchased, tested or verified this product independently, and the reviewer assignment remains unconfirmed.
