About Postscript
Postscript is an SMS and MMS retention marketing platform designed especially for ecommerce merchants, with a close integration to Shopify. It helps a store collect permission to send marketing texts, target customer groups using order and product data, automate messages after customer events and measure attributed sales. Typical workflows include a welcome flow after opt-in, browse or cart abandonment follow-ups, order-related updates, post-purchase upsells and campaigns promoting new products. The platform also offers conversational replies, and higher plans add enhanced reporting, support and integration choices. A buyer should evaluate it primarily as a commerce marketing application rather than a generic developer telecom API or a standalone service-industry appointment reminder tool. Postscript's current official pricing separates platform access from messages sent. The Starter plan says $0 per month in platform fee but explicitly requires a $49 minimum monthly spend. This is not a genuinely free ongoing SMS subscription. Starter usage rates are $0.009 per SMS and $0.045 per MMS, plus carrier fees. Growth costs $100 per month in platform fee and uses $0.008 per SMS and $0.03 per MMS. Professional costs $500 per month, with $0.007 per SMS and $0.024 per MMS. Enterprise pricing is custom and has enhanced account-management, reporting and RCS options. Published usage prices apply to the vendor's stated US and Canadian markets; international messaging carries different pricing and support limits. Businesses should confirm actual billable destinations, toll-free verification and country eligibility rather than copying US rates into worldwide forecasts. The vendor offers a trial with a $100 messaging-and-carrier-fee credit for the first 30 days. Its pricing FAQ says that if the credit is consumed early or after the trial period, additional messaging is billed at the Starter or selected package rate. A true-cost estimate should include both the plan's platform charge or Starter minimum, all SMS and MMS usage, and carrier pass-through fees. These fees vary by mobile network and message type and are shown separately on the invoice. Carrier averages printed on the pricing page are examples, not fixed guarantees for every destination or carrier. For larger senders, Postscript says a dedicated short code can cost $750/month in carrier charges, whereas a verified dedicated toll-free number is provided as part of the merchant setup. A merchant also should ask whether international texts have different prices. The message accounting model is usage-based rather than monthly prepaid credits. Postscript's help center explains that a normal SMS can contain 160 standard characters in one segment; an SMS with an emoji or special Unicode encoding can fit only 70 characters before extra segments. Long messages are split and billed by SMS segment. An MMS can contain up to 1,600 characters per message. A single campaign to 10,000 customers therefore costs at least $90 in Starter SMS usage before carrier fees and before evaluating any minimum spend, while the same number of MMS messages at the advertised rate costs $450 before carrier fees. Additional segments can substantially increase SMS charges. That calculation is illustrative and assumes one billable standard SMS or one MMS per recipient. The difference matters when marketers compare a platform fee to a total cost of ownership. Within the application, the Visual Flow Builder helps teams define triggered campaigns without maintaining custom message scripts. Shopify data can drive audience segments based on purchases, browsing, carts, products, order history and customer status. Subscriber growth tools include checkout opt-ins, popups, onsite forms and opt-in keywords. The Starter tier includes two keywords; Growth offers unlimited opt-in keywords. Campaign and automation results can be reviewed with attribution-window settings, but attributed revenue is a measurement model, not proof of sales that would never have happened without the text. Buyers should compare Postscript-reported conversions with Shopify or their wider measurement system before relying on the figures for incrementality. Higher tiers meaningfully affect access. Professional adds enhanced analytics, priority support and API access for custom integrations; the vendor notes that its branding can be removed from opt-in tools at that level. Enterprise adds a dedicated customer success manager, custom product recommendations and data warehouse push. Postscript also markets a separate AI plan at $699/month with message-type charges, plus optional managed marketing support through Postscript Plus. These are not universally included in the core $49 minimum Starter arrangement. The platform advertises integrations with other Shopify apps for email, customer support, loyalty and subscriptions, including common tools such as Klaviyo, Gorgias and Recharge. Buyers should check which connected data is available in the specific automation and whether support is native or requires a custom API. Postscript is a sensible shortlist candidate for Shopify merchants with an opt-in marketing audience and a clear plan for automated customer lifecycle communications. It is less suitable for very small merchants who would not use $49 in monthly messaging, teams needing a universal low-code CRM texting solution independent of ecommerce or organizations seeking free ongoing bulk messages. Its usage billing avoids expiring prepaid credits but can produce a variable invoice during sales spikes. Toollers reviewed the vendor's live pricing and help material, including the 2026 usage-billing documentation. We have not installed the Shopify app, tested an SMS flow, verified attribution or contacted sales for a contract.
