Benchmark vs Omnisend comparison cover

Benchmark Email and Omnisend both promise to help businesses send useful marketing emails, collect subscribers and monitor campaign results. They are not built around the same operating model. Benchmark Email NEW is a campaign-first product with a drag-and-drop editor, signup forms, tags, lists, AI assistance and reporting. Omnisend is designed around an ecommerce store: it synchronizes products, orders and customers to automate abandoned-cart reminders, post-purchase messages and segmented promotions across email, web push and eligible SMS services.

The difference becomes important once a business wants messages to react to customer behavior. The newer Benchmark platform must not be confused with Benchmark Classic. The vendor's July 2026 guidance said automation had not yet been built into NEW, despite older Classic documentation describing automation. Its newer live pricing page does now include forms, which corrects an outdated 2025 help article. This Benchmark vs Omnisend guide evaluates the currently marketed NEW product, not the entire historical Benchmark feature catalog. Sources were checked on October 24, 2026; this is official-source desk research, not hands-on testing of live paid accounts or inbox placement.

Quick verdict

Quick verdict

Choose Benchmark Email NEW for straightforward newsletters, signup forms, small-list campaigns, contact tagging and an easy-to-understand permanent Free plan. Choose Omnisend if you run a supported online store and need shopping-event automations, cart recovery, customer lifecycle segmentation, email plus web push and optional paid SMS. Benchmark's newer platform did not have built-in automation according to its July 2026 official statement; Classic automation documentation does not change that. New Omnisend SMS buyers require Pro plus a separate SMS Credits Subscription.

Benchmark wins for a small, uncomplicated newsletter. Free supports up to 500 contacts and 2,500 monthly emails. Pro starts at $19/month on monthly billing, or $16/month as a displayed annual-billing equivalent at the entry tier. Every currently marketed core campaign feature appears across Free and Pro, subject to capacity and branding restrictions.

Omnisend wins for ecommerce automation. Free allows up to 500 emails monthly reaching no more than 250 distinct recipients. Standard begins at $16/month, with emails equal to twelve times billable contacts; Pro begins at $59/month with unlimited email within fair-use rules. It offers native store-event workflows once a qualifying ecommerce store is connected.

Toollers currently displays research-based editorial scores of 4.3/5 for Benchmark and 4.7/5 for Omnisend. These profile figures are not direct controlled head-to-head test outcomes.

Key takeaways

Key takeaways

  • Benchmark NEW is a focused campaign editor, while Omnisend is an ecommerce lifecycle automation platform
  • Benchmark Classic and Benchmark NEW have separate feature histories and logins

  • Benchmark's live pricing page now lists signup forms, making an older 2025 no-forms FAQ outdated
  • Benchmark Free includes 500 contacts and 2,500 monthly email sends
  • Benchmark Pro begins at $19/month monthly or $16/month annual-equivalent and sends up to 10 times the contact tier
  • Benchmark charges $15/month for each additional paid user
  • Omnisend Free allows 500 emails to no more than 250 distinct people despite supporting more stored contacts
  • Omnisend Standard begins at $16/month with sends equal to 12 times billable contacts
  • Omnisend Pro begins at $59/month with unlimited email under fair use
  • Omnisend paid contacts can include non-subscribed store customers who purchased or abandoned checkout
  • New Omnisend SMS buyers need Pro plus separate SMS credits
  • Omnisend's Legacy Pro SMS transition is scheduled for October 26, 2026
  • Omnisend automations require an eligible connected ecommerce store to unlock their full value

Do not choose based only on a $16 headline. Benchmark's $16 refers to a Pro annual-billing equivalent at its entry contact tier, while Omnisend's $16 is a Standard starting monthly price. The contact bases, included sends, automation depth and commerce capabilities differ.

The row about Omnisend billable contacts uses the vendor's special terminology: a non-subscriber who has purchased or entered checkout is distinct from a contact who actively unsubscribed or opted out. The same stored-contact count can produce a different billing tier in the two systems.

What is Benchmark Email NEW?

Benchmark Email's newer platform is built around making email campaigns approachable. Its current product site highlights drag-and-drop editing, an HTML editor, brand kits, mobile previews, templates, reusable blocks, AI-assisted content, contact management, form building and campaign reporting. It also provides API access and Zapier connections for moving list data between other systems.

Benchmark has explicitly separated the NEW and Classic logins. That distinction matters because older Classic documentation describes features that NEW did not initially launch with, including automation and earlier versions of forms. For a buyer starting a new account now, the current NEW pricing and product listings should be the first reference, supported by newer product announcements and an actual trial in the correct environment.

Benchmark's strength is operational restraint. A local business, community group or newsletter editor may want a clean sequence of tasks: write the email, choose the list, review it, send it and inspect clicks. A complex automation system can be unnecessary for that team. The buyer must still verify any automation requirement instead of assuming that a feature present in the historical brand is available in the current product generation.

What is Omnisend?

Omnisend is an ecommerce marketing platform that connects a storefront to its campaigns, customer data and automation workflows. When a supported store is connected, it synchronizes products, orders and customers so marketers can target messages based on shopping behavior, including abandoned checkouts, purchases, return customers and product interests.

It combines email with web push and, where subscription rules allow, SMS. Its current Free plan provides access to automation capabilities but places a strict 500-email monthly limit across 250 unique recipients. Standard and Pro offer greater reach, with contact-based prices and different sending rules. Pro also establishes the current path to separately purchased SMS credits for new subscribers.

The platform's value depends on the business actually operating an eligible online store. Omnisend's own setup rules require a public, configured shop with products and a payment method. A newsletter publisher with only a landing page may not be able to unlock the workflow context that makes Omnisend different from a general email provider.

Pricing: Benchmark Email vs Omnisend

Both vendors publish a free path and contact-dependent paid plans, but they do not price the same workflow. Benchmark's costs chiefly relate to contacts, monthly email sends, users and plan level. Omnisend's costs also depend on billable commerce contacts, paid email limits and optionally SMS credits. These prices are public starting levels, not personalized or tax-inclusive quotes.

Benchmark Email pricing

  • Free — $0: up to 500 contacts and 2,500 monthly sends, with one user, one domain, two API keys and 150 AI credits per month. Benchmark branding appears on Free emails and forms.
  • Pro — from $19/month monthly: the same vendor page shows a $16/month annual-billing equivalent at the entry tier. Paid contacts begin at 1,000, the monthly send allowance equals ten times the purchased contact tier, one user is included and extra users cost $15/month each. Pro also raises AI credits to 1,000 per month and makes branding removable.
  • Enterprise — custom: sales-led pricing is offered for more than 100,000 contacts, with additional service tailored to high-volume senders.

Benchmark specifically states it will notify an account that has outgrown its contact cap and offer an upgrade rather than automatically moving the customer to a more expensive plan. This can be attractive to organizations that want tighter approval over spending. The trade-off is that sending capacity may be insufficient until someone acts on the notice.

Omnisend pricing

  • Free — $0: up to 500 emails per month and no more than 250 distinct marketing email recipients, even if more contacts are stored or imported. Up to 500 web push notifications monthly are available on compatible store platforms.
  • Standard — from $16/month: the entry example is 500 billable contacts and 6,000 emails per billing cycle. The general formula for monthly email allowance is twelve times the billable-contact tier; supported web push is unlimited.
  • Pro — from $59/month: the published entry level is 2,500 billable contacts with unlimited email subject to the fair-use policy and unlimited web push on supported platforms. Advanced capabilities and eligibility for separate SMS credits are additional reasons to choose Pro.

Omnisend's paid billing tier can move automatically as billable contacts grow, including when store shoppers create order or checkout records. The vendor also advertises introductory discounts for eligible first-time three-month commitments, but such promotional periods should not replace the standard starting price in budget forecasts.

Why the $16 comparison is not apples-to-apples

Benchmark Pro's advertised $16 is an annual-equivalent rate at its entry contact tier. Omnisend Standard's advertised $16 is the starting monthly rate at a smaller email tier. Benchmark Pro's send limit is ten times paid contacts, while Omnisend Standard's is twelve times billable contacts. Benchmark's primary feature set is campaign creation; Omnisend's larger value proposition is connected-store automation.

Ask for a quote at the actual number of contacts and monthly emails, not merely the first number on the pricing page. Include any paid user seats, SMS, outside integrations, merchant platform fees and team implementation effort.

Free plans: which one gives a small newsletter more room?

Benchmark Free offers 2,500 emails monthly for a list of up to 500 contacts. A small organization with 400 contacts could theoretically send four full-list newsletters in a month—approximately 1,600 emails—and remain below the published monthly send cap, assuming other limits and sending rules are met.

Omnisend Free offers 500 emails monthly to at most 250 distinct people. It is not a 500-subscriber sending plan: the vendor explicitly permits unlimited stored contacts but limits the marketing reach and monthly send count. A retailer can use Free to configure and test workflows, yet will need a paid tier to regularly message a growing audience.

Verdict: Benchmark Free is better for a conventional low-budget newsletter. Omnisend Free is more valuable as a small-store automation evaluation environment where ecommerce context matters more than free broadcast volume.

Contact accounting and the real monthly bill

Benchmark shows simple contacts and monthly send limits for Free and paid tiers. Pro sends are calculated as ten times the paid contact limit; if the list exceeds that tier, Benchmark says it notifies the owner and does not force an automatic paid upgrade. A buyer should still verify whether inactive or suppressed profiles affect contact limits in the specific account.

Omnisend has a more complex definition of billable contacts. Its official policy includes subscribed contacts plus certain non-subscribed customers who purchased, abandoned checkout or otherwise interacted with the store, and excludes actual unsubscribed contacts. Because the audience is built from store activity as well as marketing signups, the paid tier may be larger than the newsletter opt-in list.

For a retailer, this can be financially significant. The business may have 2,000 subscribed newsletter readers but additional recent shoppers who never elected to receive promotions. Omnisend may include eligible non-subscribed shoppers in the billing calculation because its infrastructure can send permitted transaction or cart-related communications to those profiles. Whether a message is legally or contractually allowed is a separate matter from whether a contact is billable.

Budget using billable counts from the account dashboard and an anticipated peak-season growth scenario. Do not assume that putting contacts in a separate segment makes them free, or that one provider's contact terminology maps exactly to the other's.

Automation: the biggest difference in this comparison

Omnisend has published built-in automation workflows triggered by actions such as signup, abandoned cart and order placed. Its documentation describes triggers, filters, delays, conditions and channel-specific messages. These tools are meant to respond to commerce behavior with relevant follow-up, making the service more than an ordinary campaign editor.

Benchmark NEW's automation should not be assumed available. In a July 7, 2026 article, Benchmark said that automation was not built into the current new platform and was on the roadmap. The live NEW pricing page reviewed here lists campaigns, forms, contact tools and reporting but does not establish a subsequently released journey builder. Classic knowledge-base pages documenting automation belong to the older product. Unless a current NEW release and account demonstration confirm the feature, treat it as unavailable for production planning.

Example: automated abandoned checkout

Omnisend can enter a workflow when a compatible store supplies checkout events, delay a message, segment the audience and potentially suppress further reminders when a purchase occurs. The exact trigger behavior depends on the ecommerce connector and configuration. Benchmark NEW can collect email addresses and send promotions, but there is no verified native equivalent to that cart-recovery sequence in the reviewed NEW documentation.

Example: welcome emails

Benchmark NEW can collect subscribers through its now-marketed signup forms and tag them. To automatically execute a multi-step timed welcome series, however, the marketer should not infer that the necessary NEW automation builder exists merely from tags and lists. Omnisend includes workflows after a qualifying shop is connected, but its Free email cap still applies to sends.

Go-live steps

Omnisend requires both publishing workflow edits and activating the workflow to begin sending. Its help center also cautions that enabling a flow does not disable equivalent automations already running in the store. This is an important operational detail for migration and avoiding duplicate messages.

Verdict: Omnisend is the clear choice when native ecommerce workflow automation is mandatory. Benchmark remains relevant when the job is primarily scheduling or sending segmented campaigns manually.

Benchmark NEW vs Benchmark Classic: an essential distinction

Benchmark's brand history can confuse buyers because the website links to NEW and Classic experiences, and search results can surface documentation from both. Classic articles discuss Automation Lite and other legacy functions. A new user of the NEW platform may not have those tools. A comparison that aggregates both sets of documentation into one feature table overstates what a new buyer receives.

The vendor's October 2025 next-generation FAQ originally said NEW did not include forms, landing pages or automation. However, its current live pricing site now describes a fully featured signup-form builder with popups, hosted form pages, custom fields, embedded code and tags. This is a genuine chronological change: the forms statement has become outdated.

For automation, the July 2026 article is the more recent explicit substantive statement, and it still describes automation as pending. The current pricing page does not overturn that statement with an announced NEW workflow builder. This article therefore credits modern signup forms while withholding unverified automation claims.

If you already use Classic, ask what can be exported or migrated to NEW. The 2025 official FAQ said contact migration was then manual and that historical reports or templates did not automatically move. Verify current migration tooling before switching accounts, rather than assuming a familiar brand name guarantees feature and data continuity.

Newsletter building and campaign workflow

Benchmark NEW emphasizes a drag-and-drop email builder, HTML editor, brand kit, templates, saved content blocks, desktop and mobile previews, test sends and a pre-send audit checklist that flags missing links or alt text. These functions can help a lean marketing team create polished newsletters without dedicating someone to a complex marketing operations role.

Omnisend also has promotional email capabilities, but its distinguishing strength is the ability to connect campaigns to store audiences and ecommerce automations. Merchants can build campaigns around launches, promotions and shopping behavior. For a business without a product catalog, those capabilities may add more administrative work than value.

The editor winner cannot be determined by feature names alone. Give the same actual newsletter brief to both systems and compare layout creation, mobile rendering, approval flow, personalization, image handling and sending steps. This article makes no claim that either interface is faster based on an independent user test.

Forms, popups and lead capture

Benchmark's current pricing page includes a form builder with custom fields, tags, list synchronization, universal embed code, reCAPTCHA, popups, form templates and hosted form pages. These are substantial newsletter-acquisition tools. The fact that the old 2025 FAQ omitted them should not cause this comparison to deny their current existence.

Omnisend provides signup forms in a store-connected marketing context. A retailer can capture opt-ins from shopping visitors and later segment those contacts using permitted customer and store information. The vendor's official setup page states that the shop connection is required to unlock its relevant automation and forms experience.

A hosted form page is not automatically a complete landing-page creation suite with every design and tracking feature. Benchmark NEW offers form pages, but businesses needing sophisticated conversion pages, order forms or a complete funnel builder should investigate those requirements independently. Likewise, Omnisend forms should be assessed for the specific storefront rather than as a generic lead-generation site builder.

Audience segmentation and personalization

Benchmark NEW supports lists, tags, custom fields, search filters and targeted sends. It also offers merge-field personalization within subjects and email bodies. These features work well for practical distinctions such as customers versus prospects, newsletter topic interests, geography or event registrants. The marketer can select which audience receives each campaign.

Omnisend's segmentation can use purchase history, order activity and other ecommerce information alongside channel engagement, assuming the shop is connected and data flows correctly. This can support customer lifecycle scenarios that would be difficult to replicate from static tags alone, such as sending a follow-up to first-time purchasers or targeting customers interested in a product category.

The major difference is the context in which a segment is used. Benchmark can target a list for a broadcast. Omnisend can also use store-driven segments in ongoing automations. That makes it more suitable when segmentation needs to update as shopping behavior changes.

Ecommerce campaigns: who serves the store better?

Omnisend's customer model is designed for retailers. Its store integration syncs products, orders and buyers to support abandoned-cart recovery, post-purchase messaging, targeted promotions and other lifecycle interactions. It can help a merchant move beyond a general newsletter list and speak to people based on relevant commercial events.

Benchmark NEW can embed signup forms on websites including Shopify or WordPress and use its API or Zapier to move contacts between apps. Those are useful integrations for a retailer that mostly sends newsletters. They do not independently establish full order-event automation, product recommendation logic or purchase-aware multichannel orchestration inside NEW.

Imagine an online footwear merchant. It wants a welcome discount for new subscribers, a reminder after an abandoned cart, a follow-up on completed orders and a separate message for recent repeat buyers. Omnisend is explicitly designed for this event-oriented program. Benchmark could still send product launch emails to tagged subscribers, but the merchant would need to verify or assemble much more of the automatic event logic elsewhere.

For ecommerce-first organizations, Omnisend is the stronger match. For a local service business that happens to have a basic online store but primarily sends appointments and newsletters, Benchmark may still be sufficient if no native lifecycle automation is required.

SMS marketing and Omnisend's newer billing rules

Omnisend supports SMS campaigns and workflow messages, but there is an important commercial change for new subscriptions. New Omnisend SMS subscribers after May 4, 2026 must use Pro and purchase a separately billed SMS Credits Subscription. New Standard or Free customers cannot simply add a legacy SMS arrangement under current terms. SMS credits are not automatically bundled into new Pro subscriptions.

Older accounts can have different rules. Omnisend's support documentation says eligible Legacy Pro subscriptions are scheduled to transition to the current model on October 26, 2026. Since this comparison was checked October 24, that date is upcoming, not a completed historical event. Some legacy Standard users with continuously active SMS subscriptions can remain under prior arrangements. Do not forecast a new account's expenses from another merchant's grandfathered plan.

The vendor provides country- and volume-dependent SMS rates. Its support FAQ shows illustrative U.S. rates of $0.009 for low monthly spend, with lower per-message levels at larger volumes reaching $0.007 at a high spend threshold. These figures cannot be generalized to every recipient country, carrier fee or sender registration requirement.

Benchmark NEW's currently reviewed core feature list does not establish a native SMS channel or equivalent paid SMS credit subscription. API or Zapier connectivity might support integration with a separate messaging provider, but that is a different architecture with its own consent, reporting, billing and maintenance burden. If SMS is a required primary channel, Omnisend has the clearer documented path, provided Pro plus credits fits the budget.

Web push notifications

Omnisend includes browser web push on supported ecommerce platforms. Free offers 500 push messages monthly, while Standard and Pro advertise unlimited push messages. Its current support guide lists Shopify, WooCommerce, BigCommerce and Shoplazza, but not Wix. This limitation matters because the plan page alone could lead a Wix merchant to assume push is included for its site.

Benchmark NEW's currently reviewed pricing feature inventory centers on email, forms, contacts, reporting and integrations; a comparable built-in web push channel was not established from those sources. Do not equate a general email notification or third-party integration with native browser push without a product demonstration.

Push is not available to every browser/device combination and requires the recipient's permission. A merchant should test device compatibility and platform support before expecting push to recover abandoned visits on every phone and computer.

AI tools: email assistance versus ecommerce intelligence

Benchmark NEW makes AI usage unusually explicit on its pricing page. Its AI Assistant can help draft email content and images, with 150 credits per month on Free and 1,000 credits per month on Pro. The credit model helps teams estimate how much experimentation they can do before running into a usage ceiling.

Omnisend markets AI tools for form creation, audience analysis, insights and ecommerce-specific personalization. Some advanced AI and reporting capabilities are associated with higher tiers such as Pro. A retailer with meaningful product and customer data may derive more value from commerce-aware suggestions than from basic copy assistance alone.

There is no credible universal AI winner without controlled task evaluation. Test common jobs: draft a subject line, create a discount email from a product brief, identify a useful segment and explain campaign performance. Compare factual accuracy, brand voice and the number of revisions required. AI-generated discounts or product claims always need human verification.

Analytics and revenue attribution

Benchmark NEW offers contact activity, campaign performance overviews, link-click reporting and engagement timelines. These answer straightforward marketing questions: which content people clicked, how an announcement performed and whether engagement is improving over repeated sends.

Omnisend can connect communication activity with store orders and customer behavior. That supports ecommerce-focused reports such as attributed sales, repeat-purchase campaigns and cart recovery outcomes. However, reported attribution is model-based; a vendor's attribution window may count purchases that another reporting system labels differently.

Choose reporting metrics that match the business. A nonprofit may care about event registrations or donations from a newsletter; a retailer may care about first purchases, return customers and incremental contribution margin. Neither vendor should be presented as producing higher real-world conversion or deliverability without a controlled comparable trial.

Integrations and data synchronization

Benchmark NEW advertises API access and Zapier connectivity. Its pricing page says these paths can synchronize contacts with CRM, store or booking tools and retrieve campaign results for external reporting. Zapier's broad app reach is useful, but it represents third-party connectivity, not thousands of native Benchmark-built integrations or a guaranteed event-based workflow system.

Omnisend's ecosystem is more ecommerce-focused. Its website currently markets more than 305 prebuilt integrations and flexible APIs, while the help center details direct connections to storefront systems. The specific supported integrations and data fields should still be checked. A platform can integrate at the account level while omitting the checkout or refund event a particular campaign needs.

For a proof of concept, import one test customer, subscribe through a form, make and abandon a test order, then opt out. Confirm how quickly relevant fields update and whether permission status remains accurate across every connected app. Integration depth, not app count alone, determines whether a marketing process will work safely.

Implementation and learning curve

Benchmark's simplified feature focus is a potential operational benefit for a small team. The common tasks—create a campaign, pick recipients, review the email and inspect results—fit a predictable routine. The absence of an established NEW automation builder can also be a hard functional limitation for a team trying to run behavior-driven lifecycle programs.

Omnisend requires ecommerce setup, connection permissions, event tracking, form configuration, consent choices and workflow QA. The benefit is that, once the environment is properly configured, marketers can use live shopping behavior rather than manually exporting lists. The cost is a larger operational responsibility for data quality, subscription status and monitoring of automated sends.

Neither product should be assigned an invented setup-time figure. Have the person who will run the platform perform five trial tasks: connect a data source, create a form, build an email, send to a selected audience and find the relevant performance report. For Omnisend, add a complete ecommerce trigger test; for Benchmark, explicitly ask whether a currently released NEW automation feature can satisfy any required journey.

Email delivery depends on the sending domain, authentication, list permission, bounce and complaint history, engagement and content—not just vendor branding. Configure SPF, DKIM and appropriate DMARC records, test a verified sender, keep a clean list and make unsubscribe behavior clear. Benchmark's vendor guide itself emphasizes these practices.

Omnisend's ecommerce customer records create a particular compliance risk if marketers confuse a purchase with newsletter permission. The platform can bill for some non-subscribed shoppers and support certain order-related messages, but that does not automatically grant consent to send promotions through every channel. Maintain separate opt-in records for email, SMS and push, considering local law and vendor policy.

When switching platforms, import suppression and opt-out state as carefully as the contact list. A customer who unsubscribed in the old system should not accidentally be treated as a new marketing subscriber after the migration. These controls protect both recipients and the sender's reputation.

Who should choose Benchmark Email NEW?

  • A newsletter publisher: a team sending articles, updates or announcements to a small list can benefit from Free's 500 contacts and 2,500 monthly sends.
  • A local service business: monthly promotions, reminders about events and targeted campaigns may not require ecommerce event automation.
  • A nonprofit or volunteer organization: limited budget and straightforward newsletter operations may matter more than a multichannel marketing stack.
  • A marketing generalist: templates, form pages, branding tools, AI draft assistance and understandable campaign reports cover common everyday tasks.
  • A cost-conscious team needing billing control: Benchmark says it does not automatically upgrade a contact tier without a choice, although a sending cap can still constrain campaigns.

Benchmark is less suitable if the project requires native cart-recovery journeys or SMS automation immediately. If workflow automation is a hard requirement, wait for a confirmed NEW release and test it in the actual account rather than relying on Classic tutorials or an anticipated roadmap.

Who should choose Omnisend?

  • A Shopify, WooCommerce or BigCommerce merchant: customer, product and order data are central to its marketing programs.
  • A direct-to-consumer brand: abandoned cart, post-purchase and repeat-order flows are high-priority communications.
  • A merchant planning coordinated channels: email, supported web push and eligible SMS can be part of one lifecycle strategy, subject to plan and permission rules.
  • A store needing behavior-driven segments: shopping history can help target campaigns beyond static list tags.
  • A retailer testing automations before scaling: Free can provide access to workflows once the shop is qualified and connected, with sending restrictions that should be respected.

Omnisend is less natural for a business without a functioning ecommerce store or for a small community newsletter that mainly wants generous free broadcasts. Contact-based scaling and extra SMS charges also require close budget management.

Five realistic buying scenarios

A community newsletter with 350 subscribers

Benchmark Free is the logical starting point. One weekly issue to the full audience uses roughly 1,400 monthly sends, leaving room within the 2,500 limit for extra updates. Omnisend Free cannot reach all 350 in a single marketing send because its recipient cap is 250 unique contacts.

A cosmetics store recovering abandoned carts

Omnisend is the stronger first evaluation. Its store event model and automations match the requirement. Confirm that checkout, order and product fields sync correctly; verify suppressions after purchases so messages do not continue after conversion.

A consultant collecting webinar leads

Benchmark NEW's embedded forms and campaign editor can cover list growth and manually scheduled follow-up announcements. If a multi-step timed education sequence is mandatory, however, the current NEW automation status is a blocker; the consultant should evaluate a confirmed automation platform or verified updated release.

A retailer planning email plus SMS promotions

Omnisend offers the clearer documented channel combination, but new customers need Pro and separately purchased SMS credits. Calculate actual billable contacts, monthly sends and country-specific SMS volume. Avoid copying included-credit claims from older legacy plan comparisons.

A Wix shop prioritizing browser push

Omnisend currently does not support its native push channel on Wix, according to the official push documentation. This could materially change the shortlist even if Omnisend's email automations work for the merchant. Benchmark NEW is not verified here as an alternative native push provider; examine the channel requirement independently.

Strengths and limitations at a glance

Benchmark Email NEW strengths

  • Permanent Free plan with clear contact and email allowances.
  • Accessible newsletter workflow, drag-and-drop and HTML editors, brand tools and templates.
  • Current signup forms, popups, hosted form pages, tags and personalization.
  • Published Pro pricing, extra-user fees and AI credit allowances.
  • API and Zapier options for basic contact synchronization.

Benchmark Email NEW limitations

  • Native automation not established; official July 2026 statement still listed it on roadmap.
  • Pro sends limited to ten times the contact tier each month.
  • Additional paid users cost $15/month each.
  • Older Classic content can mislead new buyers about present features.
  • Native ecommerce SMS/push and cart-recovery orchestration not established from reviewed current NEW sources.

Omnisend strengths

  • Store-connected abandoned-cart, purchase and lifecycle automation.
  • Ecommerce customer segmentation using product and order information.
  • Email, compatible web push and Pro-eligible separately purchased SMS.
  • Free access to automation capabilities within limited sending capacity.
  • Store-centric AI, reporting and growing integration ecosystem.

Omnisend limitations

  • Free email reach is capped at 250 unique people and 500 sends monthly.
  • Paid tiers can rise automatically with billable contacts, including some non-subscribed shoppers.
  • New SMS buyers must use Pro plus extra SMS credits.
  • Shop eligibility and integration requirements limit non-ecommerce fit.
  • Native web push excludes Wix and has browser/device constraints.

Migration checklist: moving from Benchmark to Omnisend

  1. Determine whether you are using Benchmark Classic or NEW. Their automation history and migration processes are different; export records from the actual source platform.
  2. Audit lists and permissions. Preserve consent sources, opt-out flags, suppression lists and channel-specific subscription states.
  3. Confirm store readiness. Verify catalog, public access, payment setup and applicable SSL or existing-brand constraints before expecting Omnisend workflows.
  4. Map every campaign and form. Rebuild embedded forms and tagged audiences; do not assume hosted Benchmark form pages map directly to an Omnisend store popup.
  5. Compare sending economics. Benchmark Pro's ten-times-contact allowance is not equivalent to Omnisend Standard's twelve-times-billable contacts or Pro's unlimited fair-use email.
  6. Model billable contact population. Include eligible order and checkout records, not only promotional subscribers.
  7. Estimate SMS separately. For new accounts, budget Pro plus recipient-country credit subscriptions, sender compliance and any other fees.
  8. Rebuild and QA automations. Check triggers, wait times, exit conditions and suppression after completed purchases.
  9. Prevent duplicate sends. Omnisend warns that enabling new workflows does not deactivate similar flows on the commerce platform.
  10. Preserve historical results. Export relevant reports before shutting down accounts, because metrics and attribution models may not transfer cleanly.

Moving back from Omnisend to Benchmark NEW also requires special care: document any store-event flows, because a campaign-first platform may not have native equivalent automation today. The true migration cost includes time to redesign the marketing process, not just importing a CSV file.

How Toollers evaluated the comparison

Testing methodology

This article is based on desk research using official Benchmark Email NEW and Omnisend pricing pages, help-center instructions, product documentation and existing Toollers profiles as of October 24, 2026. It evaluates buyer-fit, audience and sending limits, verified available features, automation prerequisites, channels, integrations and billing mechanics. Benchmark NEW is distinguished from Classic, and an older form-availability statement is corrected using the current live pricing page. Omnisend's October 26, 2026 Legacy Pro SMS migration is described as an upcoming scheduled event as of the research date. No paid-account usability testing, deliverability measurements, independent security audit, negotiated pricing or controlled ROI experiment is claimed.

The most important uncertainties are buyer-specific: whether a particular Benchmark NEW account has received any post-July automation release, whether Omnisend can connect and synchronize the intended store correctly, how many contacts are billable and the country-specific cost of SMS. These are flagged for editorial and implementation verification rather than represented as established facts.

Final verdict: Benchmark or Omnisend?

Benchmark Email NEW is the better choice for simple newsletters and low-cost manual campaigns. It offers a permanent Free plan, current signup forms, straightforward contact management and reporting. Its Pro plan has transparent starting prices and published capacities. That is enough for many content publishers, community organizations and small service businesses.

Omnisend is the better choice for ecommerce automation and retention. It turns connected shopping activity into triggered customer messages and supports store-focused segmentation across email and compatible additional channels. The costs are more nuanced: Free is restrictive, paid tiers depend on billable contacts and new SMS customers must purchase credits alongside Pro.

If your core activity is writing a weekly update, Benchmark is the more focused product to try first. If the business wants to recover carts, personalize promotions by purchase behavior and operate ongoing customer journeys, start with Omnisend—after verifying store compatibility and total billing. The right tool is the one whose confirmed current features solve the actual customer workflow.

Frequently asked questions

Is Benchmark better than Omnisend?

Does Benchmark Email NEW have automation?

Does Benchmark NEW offer signup forms now?

Yes. The current live pricing page describes embedded forms, popups, standalone form pages, templates, custom fields and tagging. An older October 2025 FAQ saying NEW forms were absent is outdated for those currently marketed features.

How much does Benchmark Email cost?

Benchmark NEW offers Free at $0 for up to 500 contacts and 2,500 emails monthly. Pro starts at $19/month on monthly billing or a displayed $16/month annual equivalent at its starting contact tier. Enterprise is custom-priced for larger senders.

How much does Omnisend cost?

Can Omnisend automate abandoned carts?

Yes. Its official workflow documentation describes ecommerce events including abandoned carts and orders. The online store must be supported and correctly connected, and flows must be published and activated before sending.

Does Omnisend include SMS on Standard?

For new subscriptions after May 4, 2026, no. Current SMS access requires Omnisend Pro plus a separately purchased SMS Credits Subscription. Qualifying legacy accounts may retain older arrangements for a limited period.

What happens to Omnisend legacy SMS credits?

Does Omnisend charge for customers who did not subscribe to marketing?

Its billable-contact definition can include non-subscribed people who placed orders or abandoned checkout. Actual unsubscribed contacts are excluded. This can make the paid tier larger than the newsletter opt-in list.
