About RevenueCat
RevenueCat is a subscription management and monetization platform for mobile-first apps that sell auto-renewing subscriptions and other in-app purchases. It sits between the app, platform billing APIs and the developer's business systems, standardizing purchases, entitlements, receipts, renewals, cancellations, refunds and subscriber activity across Apple, Google Play and supported web-payment channels. App teams use its client SDKs to determine whether a customer has premium access without maintaining separate receipt verification and lifecycle code for every store. Product and growth teams use its analytics to monitor trial conversion, churn, subscription revenue, renewals, active subscribers, cohort lifetime value and subscriber retention. RevenueCat also has tools for remotely configured paywalls, experiments, audience segmentation and web-to-app funnels, supported by webhooks, data exports and marketing attribution integrations. The CURRENT published self-serve model is a single Pro offering that is free until an account reaches $2,500 in Monthly Tracked Revenue (MTR), then costs 1% of MTR. Importantly, RevenueCat's own documentation says MTR is NOT MRR. MTR measures all tracked purchases and renewals, including non-subscription purchases, before Apple or Google store commissions and taxes. When the account goes over the free threshold, the 1% applies to the entire tracked amount rather than only to revenue above $2,500. RevenueCat's example is $2,600 in MTR resulting in a $26 platform charge, not $1. Beyond $2,500 MTR, RevenueCat charges 1% on the entire gross tracked amount, including non-subscription purchases, before store commissions and taxes.
Best for
iOS, Android, Flutter, React Native and cross-platform app teams managing in-app subscriptions, paywall experimentation and revenue analytics.
RevenueCat pros and cons
Pros
- Free access to the complete core feature set until $2,500 in Monthly Tracked Revenue.
- Unifies app-store purchase validation and entitlements across supported platforms.
- Includes paywall configuration, experiments, webhooks and detailed app subscription charts.
- Public 1% MTR formula is simpler than fixed feature-tier subscription packages.
- Enterprise can negotiate volume discounts and enhanced support for high-transaction apps.
Cons
- −1% is calculated on full pre-commission, pre-tax MTR after the free threshold, not just the excess.
- −App Store and Play Store commissions, payment-provider fees and taxes are separate.
- −Developers still need to integrate SDKs, store product IDs, entitlement logic and migration flows.
- −1% platform cost can become material for high-volume subscription or one-time in-app purchases.
- −Deleting projects or account can affect customer entitlements but does not cancel customer store subscriptions.
