About Semrush

Semrush is a digital visibility software platform for SEO professionals, content teams, agencies, consultants and brands studying performance across Google and generative AI search. Its SEO tools cover keyword discovery, search intent, competitor domains, backlink analysis, position tracking, Site Audit, internal optimization and scheduled reports. Depending on the purchased package, Semrush also provides Topic Research, SEO Writing Assistant, content marketing tools, ad intelligence, local presence management, social media tools, market intelligence and AI brand visibility or prompt tracking. Semrush sells several modules and bundles, which must be priced separately. On its current November 2026 SEO + AI Search pricing page, the base SEO plan is shown at $139/month or $117.33/month equivalent billed annually; it covers five monitored websites and 500 daily tracked keywords, with basic AI-search reports. The bundled Semrush One Starter is $199/month or $165.17/month equivalent annually and adds 50 AI prompts tracked daily, one AI brand domain and additional AI tracking features. Semrush One Pro+ is $299/month or $248.17/month equivalent annually and raises capacity to 15 websites, 1,500 keywords and 100 AI prompts tracked daily, plus historical SEO data and advanced content/position features. The Semrush One Advanced plan is sales-quoted. Separately, the vendor still documents an SEO Classic/SEO Toolkit Pro-Guru-Business product family at $139.95, $249.95 and $499.95 per month respectively; those legacy/classic prices and feature limits should not be confused with newer Semrush One bundles. Other toolkit modules are billed separately, and the current price page lists additional users starting at $45/month and several optional reporting/add-on services. A limited Free account offers one demo project and ten reports per day; qualifying new customers can try paid toolkits for seven days, usually without export capability during trial. Semrush uses its own modeled data for competitors and keyword volumes; real search traffic and ranking results need cross-checks with Search Console and Analytics. G2 reviewers value the breadth of research but often flag the learning curve and add-on expense. Toollers has not run a Semrush campaign, validated databases against client sites, tested AI mention tracking or audited its API quotas; the score is a documented desk-research judgment.

Best for

SEO consultants, agencies and in-house teams seeking keyword/competitive research, audits, daily rankings, content optimization and optional ChatGPT/Gemini/Perplexity brand visibility.

Semrush pros and cons

Pros

  • SEO research combines keyword, competitor, backlinks, daily ranks, technical audit and reporting tools.

  • Different package levels support freelancers through multi-domain agencies and enterprise teams.
  • Official Google Analytics and Search Console integrations enable first-party/estimated data comparison.
  • A limited free account and seven-day trial for eligible customers support basic evaluation.

Cons

  • −Advanced AI search visibility, historical data, agency reports and larger project limits can require much more expensive tiers.
  • −Adding users, content/local/advertising toolkits, API capacity and reports can raise the effective monthly bill.
  • −Seven-day trials exclude data exports and may be unavailable after a previous trial or paid subscription.
