Kartra vs Kajabi comparison cover

Kartra and Kajabi are premium all-in-one platforms for experts, creators, coaches, consultants, and digital-product businesses, but they are optimized around different centers of gravity. Kartra is fundamentally a marketing and sales operations platform that also delivers courses and memberships. Kajabi is fundamentally an expertise-product platform—courses, coaching, communities, memberships, newsletters, downloads, podcasts, and other products—with marketing and sales built around that customer experience.

Kartra currently starts at $59 per month or $52 per month equivalent on annual billing for Essentials. Starter is $119 monthly or $99 annual-equivalent, Growth is $229/$189, and Professional is $549/$429. The important pricing catch is Essentials' 5% Kartra transaction fee. Starter and higher list 0% Kartra transaction fees. Kajabi is substantially more expensive at the entry level: Basic costs $179 per month or $143 annual-equivalent, Growth $249/$199, and Pro $499/$399.

Price alone does not decide the comparison. Kartra Starter at $99 annual-equivalent includes 2,500 contacts, unlimited pages, products, memberships/courses, email and SMS, video hosting, calendars, five team members, and no Kartra transaction fee. Kajabi Basic at $143 annual-equivalent also has 2,500 contacts but only five products, one website, one community, and two admin users—yet it delivers a more polished creator ecosystem around courses, coaching, community, customer apps, offers, and learning experiences.

There is also one major 2026 product change that older Kartra-vs-Kajabi comparisons miss: Kartra's own support documentation says Kartra Webinars is being retired. Starting November 1, 2026, users will no longer be able to create or edit webinars. Because this comparison is being published on October 17, 2026, native Kartra webinars still exist today, but they should not be treated as a durable reason to choose the platform.

Quick verdict

Quick verdict

Choose Kartra if your business is marketing-first: funnels, landing pages, email/SMS automation, checkout optimization, lead management, affiliate programs, calendars, support/help desk, segmentation, upsells, sales analytics, and operational consolidation matter more than delivering the most polished course/community experience. Choose Kajabi if the product itself is your expertise—courses, coaching, memberships, communities, newsletters, downloads, podcasts, and premium member experiences—and marketing exists to support that product. Kartra is materially cheaper at Starter and more operations-heavy; Kajabi is more expensive but stronger for creator education, coaching and community. Do not choose Kartra for its native webinar stack: Kartra says webinar creation/editing will be retired on November 1, 2026.

Key takeaways

  • Kartra Essentials is $59 monthly or $52 annual-equivalent but charges a 5% Kartra transaction fee; Starter is $119/$99 and removes that fee.
  • Kajabi Basic is $179 monthly or $143 annual-equivalent; Growth is $249/$199 and Pro is $499/$399.
  • Kartra Starter is far cheaper than Kajabi Basic and includes unlimited pages, products and memberships/courses, but Kajabi provides a more mature creator-first course/coaching/community ecosystem.
  • Kartra Growth at $229/$189 is close in price to Kajabi Growth at $249/$199; Kartra emphasizes advanced marketing, affiliates and help desk, while Kajabi emphasizes creator automation, affiliates and larger product/contact capacity.
  • Kajabi Growth and Pro include Advanced Automations and Affiliates; Basic uses Basic Automations.
  • Kajabi supports Courses, Coaching, Communities, Downloads, Newsletters, Podcasts, Backstage and Expert Agents as current Product types.
  • Kajabi's Branded App is a $199/month add-on on eligible plans and is currently included with Pro according to the live pricing table.
  • Kartra Webinars is being retired on November 1, 2026, so webinar functionality should not be treated as a long-term Kartra advantage.

Best reason to buyMarketing/sales operations consolidationExpertise-product delivery and community

The biggest difference: marketing engine versus expertise business platform

Kartra's strongest use case starts with the customer journey. A visitor lands on a Kartra page, submits a form, becomes a lead, receives email or SMS, enters an automated sequence, sees an offer, completes a checkout, triggers upsells or follow-up, receives access to a membership/course, books an appointment, becomes eligible for segmentation, and can later receive support through the same ecosystem.

The platform is therefore highly attractive when the business owner thinks in funnels, contacts, tags, behavior, conversion, order value, list-building, retargeting, sales sequences, and operations. Course delivery is one module inside that business engine.

Kajabi starts from the opposite direction. The core question is: what expertise product are you selling? Current Kajabi Product types include Courses, Coaching, Communities, Downloads, Newsletters, Podcasts, Backstage and Expert Agents. Those products connect to Offers, checkout, landing pages, email, Funnels, Automations, Contacts and Payments.

That makes Kajabi more natural when the experience after purchase is the brand. A $2,000 coaching program, a cohort course, a premium membership, an ongoing community, or a subscription knowledge business needs more than a sales funnel. It needs member experience, content organization, engagement, access controls, progress, mobile delivery, and community.

Kartra can absolutely deliver courses and memberships. Kajabi can absolutely build funnels and automate marketing. The better choice depends on which side must feel first-class rather than merely capable.

Pricing: Kartra is dramatically cheaper to enter

Kartra Essentials costs $59 per month or $52 per month equivalent when billed annually. It includes 500 contacts, 10,000 emails per month, one custom domain, five pages, one product, one membership/course, Kartra AI usage, forms, funnel mapping, analytics, checkouts and prebuilt campaigns.

The problem is the 5% Kartra transaction fee. Kartra's official support documentation says Essentials applies a 5% fee to sales and rebills after refunds and chargebacks are accounted for. Payment-processor charges remain separate.

If a business processes $5,000 per month through eligible Kartra Essentials sales, a 5% platform fee is $250—far more than the subscription difference between Essentials and Starter. For any creator expecting meaningful sales volume, Starter should be evaluated immediately rather than assuming Essentials is cheapest.

Starter costs $119 monthly or $99 annual-equivalent. It expands to 2,500 contacts, unlimited email/SMS, 0% Kartra transaction fees, unlimited pages, unlimited products, unlimited memberships/courses, video hosting, calendars and five team members.

Kajabi Basic costs $179 monthly or $143 annual-equivalent. It includes five products, 2,500 contacts, one website, one community and two admin users. Every current Kajabi plan also lists unlimited landing pages, unlimited Funnels and unlimited marketing emails.

At entry operating tiers, Kartra Starter is therefore $44 per month cheaper than Kajabi Basic on annual-equivalent pricing, before payment processing and any add-ons.

Kartra Starter vs Kajabi Basic

This is the most useful comparison for an operating solo creator or small expertise business. Kartra Starter is $99 annual-equivalent; Kajabi Basic is $143.

Kartra wins on quantity and breadth. Starter lists unlimited products, pages and memberships/courses rather than Kajabi Basic's five products. Kartra also includes video hosting, calendars, lead management, funnel tools, checkout, email/SMS and five team members.

Kajabi Basic wins on product-delivery quality and creator-focused structure. Its products live inside an ecosystem specifically designed around courses, coaching, community, customer libraries, Offers, access groups, the Kajabi Customer App and a broader creator/member experience. Kajabi supports one Community even on Basic.

Basic also includes Basic Automations across areas such as Courses, Offers, Funnels, Email Campaigns, Events, Forms, Quizzes and certificates. It is less sophisticated than Growth/Pro Advanced Automations, but it is enough for straightforward onboarding, tagging and follow-up.

Choose Kartra Starter when marketing and tool consolidation matter most. Choose Kajabi Basic when the customer learning/community experience matters enough to justify the additional cost.

Kartra Growth vs Kajabi Growth

The pricing gap becomes much smaller in the middle tier. Kartra Growth costs $229 monthly or $189 annual-equivalent. Kajabi Growth is $249 monthly or $199 annual-equivalent.

Kartra Growth supports 12,500 contacts and three custom domains and adds advanced automation capabilities, affiliate management, surveys/quizzes, help desk and stronger scaling features. It is the tier where Kartra becomes a serious marketing-operations platform rather than simply an inexpensive all-in-one builder.

Kajabi Growth supports 50 products, 25,000 contacts, one website, one community and 11 admin users. It unlocks Advanced Automations and the Affiliates feature. Current Kajabi pricing also lists 500 monthly AI credits on Growth.

Kajabi Growth therefore provides twice Kartra Growth's listed contact capacity and is only $10 per month more on annual-equivalent pricing. Kartra Growth justifies itself through its wider operational toolset: help desk, broader funnel/sales operations, native scheduling, campaign tooling, and marketing-oriented infrastructure.

For a mature course or coaching business, Kajabi Growth is usually the stronger value. For a funnel-driven info-product, consulting, lead-generation, or marketing-heavy business that would otherwise pay separately for support, scheduling and affiliate infrastructure, Kartra Growth can still win.

Kartra Professional vs Kajabi Pro

At the top current standard tiers, Kajabi is actually cheaper. Kartra Professional costs $549 monthly or $429 annual-equivalent. Kajabi Pro costs $499 monthly or $399 annual-equivalent.

Kartra Professional raises the contact limit to 25,000, adds five custom domains, real-time funnel analytics and help-desk live chat, while inheriting Growth's advanced operational features.

Kajabi Pro supports unlimited products, 100,000 contacts, three websites, three communities and 26 admin users. Current Kajabi pricing also lists 1,000 AI credits, API access, custom code capabilities and the Branded Mobile App as included with the plan.

For a scaled expert or education business, Kajabi Pro's 100,000-contact ceiling and unlimited product structure are compelling, especially because its annual-equivalent price is lower than Kartra Professional. Kartra Professional makes more sense when its specialized funnel analytics, sales operations and support stack are the reason for the purchase.

Courses and memberships: Kajabi has the better learning-business ecosystem

Kartra delivers courses through its Memberships system. Businesses can create training portals, upload content and video, drip lessons over time, track progress, create access tiers and sell membership/course access through Kartra's checkout and automation stack.

This is enough for many info-product businesses. If the main educational experience is a sequence of videos, lessons, modules and gated member access, Kartra can replace a dedicated course platform while keeping marketing tightly integrated.

Kajabi goes further because courses are one of its primary product types rather than an extension of membership delivery. Kajabi supports Evergreen and Cohort Courses, member libraries, offers, email/automation integration, learning delivery through its customer app and optional branded-app experience.

More importantly, the rest of the creator platform surrounds the course. A course can lead into a Community, Coaching Product, downloadable resource, newsletter, podcast or another product without switching ecosystems.

Choose Kartra if course delivery is one part of a marketing business. Choose Kajabi if course delivery is the business.

Coaching: Kajabi has the clearer advantage

Kajabi has a dedicated Coaching Product for both one-to-one and group coaching. Coaches can organize agenda items and resources, track client progress, schedule sessions through Kajabi Scheduler and use built-in live video when the product is configured with Kajabi's native scheduling workflow.

Kajabi can also work with third-party tools such as Calendly, Acuity, Zoom and Google Meet. However, using some external scheduling methods can make a Coaching Product ineligible for Kajabi's built-in live video, so coaches should decide whether the native or third-party meeting stack is more important.

Kartra can support coaching businesses through Calendars, products, checkouts, membership portals, email/SMS, automations and external meeting integrations. Kartra Calendars can handle free or paid bookings, availability, classes/events, confirmations and reminders.

The difference is experience design. Kajabi treats coaching as a first-class product with program delivery and progress structure. Kartra treats coaching as a business assembled from scheduling, sales, content and automation modules. Both work; Kajabi is more natural for the client experience.

Community: Kajabi wins decisively

Kajabi Communities are a dedicated product, not simply a comment area inside a course. Current community features include newsfeeds, chats, direct messages, live video calls, recording libraries, accountability/progress tools, challenges, resources, events and RSVPs, ambassadors/admins, member directories and leaderboards.

Access Groups can create free and paid tiers inside the same Community and connect those tiers to Offers. This makes the Community itself monetizable rather than merely a support forum.

Kartra's membership portals can deliver gated content and multiple access tiers, but Kartra does not have an equivalent creator-community layer with Kajabi's current breadth of social interaction and engagement tooling.

For businesses where peer interaction, challenges, events, retention and member identity are part of the value proposition, Kajabi should receive significantly more weight.

Funnels and campaign operations: Kartra wins

Funnels are central to Kartra's architecture. Pages, opt-in forms, email sequences, tags, checkout, upsells, downsells, products, membership access, calendars, affiliates and analytics can be connected around customer behavior.

Kartra also includes prebuilt campaigns that can import more than a visual page template. A campaign can bring in connected landing pages, sequences, tags and automation rules so a business starts from an existing marketing structure.

Kartra Growth and above add deeper marketing tools such as funnel simulation and advanced automations, and Professional adds real-time funnel analytics.

Kajabi includes unlimited Funnels on every current standard plan. Kajabi Funnels can connect landing pages, forms, email and Offers effectively, and Growth/Pro Advanced Automations add conditional logic. But Kajabi's overall product philosophy is still creator-product-first rather than funnel-operations-first.

A direct-response marketer will generally find more depth in Kartra. A course creator who simply needs a launch funnel may find Kajabi easier because everything points back to the product experience.

Email marketing: both can replace a dedicated platform for many creators

Kartra Essentials includes 10,000 emails per month. Starter and higher currently advertise unlimited email and SMS within plan/fair-use terms. Kartra Mail supports campaigns, sequences, segmentation, tags and behavioral automation tied to activity across the platform.

That cross-module behavior is Kartra's advantage. A lead can be segmented based on form submissions, email engagement, purchases, membership actions or other tracked behavior and then moved through a different sequence.

Kajabi currently lists unlimited marketing emails on Basic, Growth and Pro. Contacts scale from 2,500 on Basic to 25,000 on Growth and 100,000 on Pro. Email connects naturally to Products, Offers, Forms, Funnels, Events and Automations.

Both can replace a simple email-marketing product. Businesses with highly sophisticated deliverability, CRM or lifecycle needs should still compare specialist platforms such as ActiveCampaign, HubSpot or dedicated ESPs.

Automations: Kartra is more marketing-centric; Kajabi is easier around creator workflows

Kartra automation is designed around lead behavior and funnel actions. Tags, sequences, product activity, segmentation and other events can trigger different marketing paths. Growth is the plan where Kartra's advanced automation capabilities become a major selling point.

Kajabi Basic uses Basic Automations built on a When-Then model. For example, when someone submits a form, Kajabi can add a tag or send an email. Basic Automations can be attached inside Courses, Offers, Funnels, campaigns, forms, quizzes and related product workflows.

Kajabi Growth and Pro unlock Advanced Automations, adding conditional Only-if logic and centralized automation management. That is enough for sophisticated creator lifecycle workflows without requiring users to think like a dedicated marketing-automation engineer.

Kartra usually wins when segmentation and sales-funnel logic become complex. Kajabi is usually easier when automation mainly supports enrollment, onboarding, engagement, offers and creator-product lifecycle.

Checkout, payments and fees

Kartra Checkouts support one-time payments, subscriptions, free trials, payment plans, order bumps, upsells and downsells. Essentials adds a 5% Kartra platform fee on sales/rebills under the official calculation. Starter and higher currently list 0% Kartra transaction fees, while Stripe, PayPal or other processors still charge their own fees.

Kajabi says it does not take revenue share as a platform. Kajabi Payments has processing fees that vary by country, plan and payment method. The current U.S. pricing table lists 2.9% + $0.30 on Basic, 2.8% + $0.30 on Growth and 2.7% + $0.30 on Pro for Kajabi Payments.

Where Kajabi Payments is available, choosing certain third-party payment processors instead can add a Kajabi fee. The current U.S. pricing table lists 2% on Basic, 1% on Growth and 0.5% on Pro for eligible third-party providers, excluding PayPal and Kajabi Payments, plus the processor's own charges.

This means “0% platform transaction fee” needs context on both products. Kartra Starter+ does not add a Kartra fee, but processors still charge. Kajabi says it has no revenue share, but processor and eligible third-party-provider fees can still affect margin.

Affiliates: both require higher tiers

Kartra's Affiliate Management is currently included on Growth, Professional and Enterprise. Businesses can recruit affiliates, approve applications, configure commission structures, track links and opt-ins, monitor performance, and manage commissions. Kartra also has an affiliate marketplace and can use PayPal instant-payment workflows in supported setups.

Kajabi's Affiliates feature is available on Growth and Pro. Creators can set commissions, give affiliates share links and coupon codes, track conversions and form submissions, calculate earnings, report on affiliate performance, and pay commissions manually or through supported automatic payout workflows.

Both are capable. Kartra's affiliate module fits naturally into its direct-response and marketing-operations identity. Kajabi's system is more than adequate for course and coaching businesses that recruit partners to sell Offers.

If affiliate marketing is essential on day one, neither Kartra Starter nor Kajabi Basic is the correct plan comparison. Compare Kartra Growth against Kajabi Growth.

Help desk and customer support operations: Kartra wins

Kartra Growth includes Helpdesk support capabilities, and Professional adds live chat. That is an unusually valuable inclusion for an all-in-one creator platform because it can reduce the need for a separate support inbox or live-chat system.

The help-desk layer can connect customer support with the rest of the customer record and purchase/membership context, helping small businesses keep marketing, sales and support closer together.

Kajabi provides support tools for Kajabi account owners and customer/member management inside its product ecosystem, but it does not position a native customer-support help desk as a core equivalent to Kartra's module.

If your business sells high-touch offers and fields substantial billing, access, membership or product-support tickets, Kartra's built-in support layer can materially affect total stack cost.

Scheduling: both are capable, Kajabi is more coaching-specific

Kartra Calendars can offer free or paid bookings, control availability, automate reminders and confirmations, and support appointment/session models such as consultant appointments, classes, recurring events or other bookable experiences.

Kajabi Scheduler is embedded more tightly into Coaching Products. Clients can purchase a Coaching Offer, access their program, book sessions, review agenda items and resources, and use built-in live video where configured.

Kartra is better when scheduling is an independent business function across sales calls, appointments, classes or events. Kajabi is better when scheduling is part of a structured paid coaching program.

Webinars: do not buy Kartra for this anymore

Historically, native webinars were one of Kartra's strongest points against Kajabi. Kartra supports scheduled, always-on and immediate webinars, registration, chat, polls, offers, slides, recordings and funnel-connected follow-up.

That comparison is now changing. Kartra's official support documentation says Kartra Webinars is being retired. Starting November 1, 2026, users will no longer be able to create or edit webinars.

Existing users should follow Kartra's migration/support guidance and export recordings or registrant information as needed. New buyers should treat any webinar rows on older pricing pages or third-party comparisons as transitional rather than a future platform capability.

Kajabi is not a classic webinar platform either, but it has built-in live video for eligible Coaching workflows and live video calls inside Communities. Businesses needing evergreen or high-scale webinar marketing should plan to integrate a specialist webinar platform with whichever system they choose.

Websites and landing pages

Kartra's page builder is marketing-first. Landing pages, sales pages, squeeze pages, checkout flows, opt-in pages and campaign pages are designed to connect directly with forms, tags, products and automations. Starter and above currently list unlimited pages.

Kajabi includes one website on Basic and Growth and three on Pro, while landing pages are unlimited on all current plans. Sites are naturally connected to creator Products, Offers, checkout and member experiences.

Kartra is stronger when the website is primarily a conversion system. Kajabi is stronger when the website is the front door to an expertise brand with courses, coaching, community and content delivery behind it.

Mobile experience: Kajabi has the stronger creator story

Kajabi customers can consume content through Kajabi's customer app ecosystem, and creators can purchase a fully branded mobile app add-on with their own name, icon and branding in the Apple App Store and Google Play.

The Branded App can include Courses, Coaching Programs, Podcasts, Community and Backstage, supports push notifications and can support in-app purchases. Kajabi currently prices the Branded App add-on at $199 per month, while the live Pro pricing table lists it as included with Pro.

Kartra is web-centric and does not offer an equivalent native white-label creator app as a central product proposition.

If a premium mobile member experience is part of the brand strategy, Kajabi has a significant advantage.

AI

Kartra includes Kartra AI on all paid plans with usage varying by plan. The current official pricing page lists 30 uses on Essentials, 100 on Starter and higher allowances on Growth/Professional. Kartra AI is designed to help create copy for pages, emails, SMS and related marketing assets.

Kartra's support documentation says AI usage is shared among account users and resets monthly. It also warns users not to submit sensitive information to the AI system and documents that prompts are processed through OpenAI as part of the feature.

Kajabi's current pricing table is evolving more aggressively around AI. Basic currently lists zero monthly AI credits in the new credit system, Growth 500 and Pro 1,000, with $15 top-ups for 500 credits. The pricing table also references Expert Agents and Backstage as newer AI/product capabilities.

AI should not decide this comparison by itself because both vendors are changing AI packaging quickly. Evaluate the creator/marketing workflow first, then treat AI as an accelerator inside that platform.

API and customization

Kartra's higher tiers include deeper API, custom-code, agency and advanced capabilities. That can be useful for mature marketing operations that need to synchronize customer activity with external systems or custom workflows.

Kajabi Pro currently lists API access as included and assigns it a $25-per-month value in the pricing comparison. Pro also includes Custom Code Editor capabilities and is positioned for businesses running more brands or needing deeper customization.

Both can connect to external tools through integrations and automation services such as Zapier. The practical difference is that Kartra often tries to eliminate the external tool entirely, while Kajabi more explicitly specializes around the expertise business and lets the rest of the stack stay specialized.

Contact limits and scaling

Kartra currently lists 500 contacts on Essentials, 2,500 on Starter, 12,500 on Growth and 25,000 on Professional. Kartra's contact capacity can therefore push a growing audience into higher plans even if the company does not need every newly unlocked feature.

Kajabi gives 2,500 contacts on Basic, 25,000 on Growth and 100,000 on Pro. That creates a very large jump at Growth. Kajabi also says additional contact capacity can be added in blocks of 25,000 for $125 per month when needed.

For email-heavy creator businesses, Kajabi Growth's 25,000 contacts versus Kartra Growth's 12,500 is a meaningful pricing advantage because the two tiers are only $10 apart on annual-equivalent pricing.

For smaller lists, Kartra can be dramatically cheaper. Model expected audience growth over two or three years rather than only today's list size.

Which is better for course creators?

Kajabi is usually the better choice. Courses are a first-class Product, not just gated membership content, and the surrounding creator stack—Community, Coaching, customer apps, Offers, email, Funnels, engagement and optional branded app—creates a stronger learning-business ecosystem.

Kartra is still an excellent choice for a course seller whose primary competitive advantage is funnel sophistication. A direct-response business selling training through aggressive segmentation, order bumps, upsells, affiliate campaigns and follow-up may value Kartra's marketing stack more than Kajabi's richer member ecosystem.

Which is better for coaches?

Kajabi generally wins for coaches because its Coaching Product combines scheduling, built-in live video, agenda/resources and progress management with the rest of the member experience.

Kartra is excellent for coaches who operate more like lead-generation and consulting businesses: landing pages, lead forms, email/SMS, appointment calendars, checkout, memberships, affiliates and help desk can form a powerful client-acquisition engine.

If delivery quality and community are the priority, Kajabi. If pipeline and conversion operations are the priority, Kartra.

Which is better for membership businesses?

Kajabi is usually stronger when membership means ongoing content plus community. Access Groups, private communities, events, live video, challenges, chats and member engagement are core to the current platform.

Kartra can deliver recurring membership access and gated content very effectively, with tiers, drip scheduling, video and marketing automation. It is stronger when the membership itself is primarily gated content attached to a sophisticated funnel.

Which is better for consultants and service businesses?

Kartra often has the advantage. Consultants can generate leads, qualify them through forms, automate follow-up, let prospects book calendars, take payments, deliver member resources, manage affiliate referrals and support customers without assembling many separate systems.

Kajabi becomes stronger when consulting is productized into structured Coaching, Communities, cohorts or recurring educational programs rather than primarily one-to-one sales and service delivery.

Which is better for direct-response marketers?

Kartra is the clear fit. Funnel mapping, advanced behavior automation, campaign templates, checkout optimization, upsells, downsells, affiliate infrastructure, lead tagging, funnel simulation and real-time funnel analytics on the highest tier align directly with direct-response operations.

Kajabi Funnels are capable, but the platform is less obsessed with every layer of the funnel. Its strongest advantage appears after the sale—delivering the expertise product and retaining the customer through content, coaching and community.

Which is better for community-led businesses?

Kajabi is the clear choice. Current Communities combine discussion, DMs, live calls, challenges, events, accountability tools, resource sharing, member directories and monetized access groups.

Kartra can host memberships and content but is not trying to be a community network to the same degree.

Which is easier to use?

Both products are broad enough to have meaningful learning curves. Kartra's complexity comes from the number of operational modules—leads, pages, products, checkouts, campaigns, sequences, calendars, help desk, affiliate tools and analytics.

Kajabi is also broad, but the workflow is more coherent for a creator: create a Product, build an Offer, create marketing around it, sell it, and deliver it through the member environment. That conceptual model can be easier for coaches and educators.

Marketers may find Kartra's structure more intuitive because it maps closely to funnels and lifecycle automation. Educators/coaches may find Kajabi more intuitive because it maps closely to programs and member experiences.

Security and trust

Kartra's current official materials describe encrypted payment connections, isolated account databases, firewalls, MFA, encryption at rest, GDPR/DPA processes and PCI-related controls. The platform also supports integrations with major payment and communication systems.

Kajabi documents SSL, PCI-related payment controls, two-factor authentication, backups, permissions and GDPR support. Kajabi Payments works alongside Stripe and PayPal integrations depending on region.

Toollers' current research has not independently verified a current vendor-owned public SOC 2 or ISO application certification for either platform. Businesses handling regulated, health, financial or highly confidential data should request the vendor's current security packet, subprocessor documentation and contractual terms before deployment.

Kartra limitations

Pros

  • Kartra strengths: lower entry pricing
  • Starter $99 annual-equivalent with 0% Kartra transaction fee
  • unlimited pages/products/memberships/courses on Starter+
  • strong funnels and marketing automations
  • email/SMS
  • checkouts
  • calendars
  • affiliates on Growth+
  • help desk
  • advanced funnel analytics
  • all-in-one sales operations.

Cons

  • Kartra limitations: Essentials has a 5% platform transaction fee
  • contact limits are lower than Kajabi at comparable higher tiers
  • course/community experience is less creator-specialized
  • interface has a meaningful learning curve
  • its native Webinars feature is being retired Nov 1, 2026
  • the broad feature set can feel operationally complex.

The biggest Kartra mistake is buying the platform because it appears to replace everything, then using only pages and email. Kartra creates the most value when the business actively uses multiple connected modules. If your differentiator is education/community rather than marketing operations, the extra operational breadth can become clutter instead of leverage.

Kajabi limitations

Pros

  • Kajabi strengths: excellent creator-first product ecosystem
  • Courses, Coaching and Communities
  • unlimited funnels/landing pages/marketing emails on current plans
  • Growth 25K contacts and Pro 100K
  • advanced automations and affiliates on Growth/Pro
  • customer mobile app
  • optional branded mobile app
  • strong member experience
  • Kajabi Payments and integrated Offers.

Cons

  • Kajabi limitations: expensive entry pricing at $179/$143
  • Basic only has 5 products and Basic Automations
  • advanced automation/affiliates require Growth
  • eligible third-party payment providers can add Kajabi fees
  • help-desk and direct-response operations are less deep than Kartra
  • Branded App is expensive unless included with Pro.

The biggest Kajabi mistake is buying a premium creator platform when the business only needs a funnel, email list and checkout. Kajabi makes sense when its product-delivery ecosystem replaces multiple tools or materially improves how customers consume and stay engaged with the expertise being sold.

Which should you choose?

Choose Kartra if the business is fundamentally a marketing machine. It is especially strong for consultants, info-product sellers, direct-response businesses, service providers and creators who need landing pages, funnels, email/SMS, checkouts, upsells, calendars, affiliate programs, membership delivery and support connected around the same customer record. For most operating businesses, Starter is the minimum sensible tier because it removes Essentials' 5% fee; Growth is where the serious automation, affiliate and support stack begins. See the Kartra review, Kartra pricing guide, and Kartra alternatives.

Choose Kajabi if the product is your expertise. Course creators, coaches, community operators, membership businesses and education-led brands get a more coherent customer experience across content, Coaching, Communities, Offers, email, checkout, mobile and engagement. Basic is expensive but sufficient for a smaller business; Growth is the strongest general-purpose tier because it jumps to 25,000 contacts, Advanced Automations and Affiliates; Pro is for large catalogs, multiple brands/sites, API/custom-code requirements and the included branded-app value. See the Kajabi review, Kajabi pricing guide, and Kajabi alternatives.

If the choice remains close, build the same business in both during the available trial/guarantee window: one lead magnet, one sales funnel, a five-email nurture sequence, one paid course, one recurring membership, an upsell, an affiliate program, one coaching booking workflow and one customer-support scenario. Then have a real customer buy, log in and use the product. The better platform is the one that creates the smoothest full journey from first click to long-term member—not the one that has more boxes on a feature table.

How we compared Kartra and Kajabi

Testing methodology

This is a research-based comparison, not a hands-on conversion or course-delivery benchmark. Toollers reviewed current official Kartra and Kajabi pricing and help documentation on October 17, 2026 covering plans, contacts, products, memberships/courses, Communities, Coaching, Funnels, email, automation, checkouts, transaction/payment fees, affiliates, scheduling, help desk, AI, branded apps, API/customization and current webinar status. We did not build and sell the same production course on both systems, benchmark email deliverability, run the same funnel traffic, measure checkout conversion, negotiate enterprise pricing or process real payment disputes. Total cost depends on payment provider, contact growth, add-ons, processing fees, external integrations and which modules genuinely replace other paid tools.

Frequently asked questions

Is Kartra or Kajabi better for online courses?
Kajabi is usually better when the course and member experience are the center of the business. Kajabi combines Courses with Coaching, Communities, Offers, customer apps, email, Funnels and engagement tools. Kartra can deliver strong courses and memberships, but its primary advantage is the marketing and sales operation around them.
Which is cheaper, Kartra or Kajabi?
Kartra is substantially cheaper at the entry operating tier. Kartra Starter costs $119 per month or $99 annual-equivalent, while Kajabi Basic costs $179 or $143 annual-equivalent. Kartra Essentials is cheaper still at $59/$52 but adds a 5% Kartra transaction fee. At Growth, pricing is close: Kartra $229/$189 versus Kajabi $249/$199.
Which is better for communities, Kartra or Kajabi?
Kajabi is stronger. Kajabi Communities include chats, direct messages, live video, challenges, events, accountability features, member directories, leaderboards and paid/free Access Groups. Kartra has membership portals and gated content but not an equivalent community-first product.
Which is better for funnels and marketing automation, Kartra or Kajabi?
Kartra generally has the advantage for sophisticated funnel and direct-response operations. Its strengths include connected pages, forms, email/SMS, lead tagging, checkouts, upsells, advanced automations, funnel simulation, affiliate tools and higher-tier funnel analytics. Kajabi Funnels and Advanced Automations are strong but are designed primarily to support an expertise-product business.
Does Kartra still have built-in webinars?
Kartra's native Webinars feature still exists as of October 17, 2026, but Kartra's official support documentation says the feature is being retired. Starting November 1, 2026, users will no longer be able to create or edit webinars. New buyers should therefore use a specialist webinar platform rather than choosing Kartra for native webinars.
