About Intercom
Intercom is a customer service platform combining messaging, ticket management, a shared human-agent Inbox, a knowledge base and Fin AI Agent. It serves subscription companies, digital services, ecommerce support teams and organizations that want to answer questions through website Messenger, email, in-app messages and supported channels while preserving customer context. Teams can route conversations, maintain a public or private Help Center, run reporting and add workflows, team inboxes, multilingual content, service-level agreements or multibrand tools depending on the plan. Fin is part of the current Intercom plan family and can answer from approved information, perform configured procedures or hand a case to a human. Paid Fin usage is separate from human seats and generally costs $0.99 per counted outcome; under September 2026 outcome rules, an outcome may be a completed AI resolution or a successful configured Procedure that ends with a handoff, so it is not always equivalent to a human-free resolution. Intercom Help Center publishes standard USD pricing of Essential $39 per full seat month-to-month or $29/seat/month with annual billing, Advanced $99/$85 and Expert $139/$132. The current public pricing landing page also shows a new-customer Essential promotional $19/seat/month (35% off standard $29 annual rate), which is not guaranteed ongoing. The Advanced tier includes 20 free Lite seats and introduces multiple team inboxes, workflow builder, round-robin assignment and multilingual/private Help Center. Expert includes 50 Lite seats, multibrand capabilities, SLAs, SSO and regulated-workflow capabilities where configured. All plans include unlimited live chat and inbound email/in-app messages, while outbound campaigns, SMS, WhatsApp and telephone usage have separate charges. Optional Copilot, Pro AI management/analysis and Proactive Support Plus add further fees. A no-card 14-day trial is offered; it ends without becoming a paid subscription unless the organization chooses a plan and payment details. For teams already running Zendesk, Salesforce or supported helpdesks, Fin can be sold separately without Intercom seats, but a monthly minimum commitment may apply. Intercom’s cancellation support says an early cancellation of prepaid annual service is not automatically prorated. The G2 user-review listing has been renamed Fin, so its aggregate combines historical Intercom reviews and newer Fin feedback rather than exactly the current seat-based service package. Reviewers frequently value Messenger, the shared inbox and automation, while reporting cost and AI response quality concerns. Toollers did not deploy the Messenger, train Fin on a real knowledge base or test AI outcome counts.
Best for
SaaS and digital customer support teams needing live chat, human ticketing, knowledge management and AI answers in one platform.
Intercom pros and cons
Pros
- Combines Messenger, shared inbox, tickets, Help Center and Fin AI Agent in one support workflow.
- Clear published standard seat prices and per-outcome Fin billing let teams calculate scenarios.
- Fourteen-day trial requires no card and does not automatically convert without selection.
- Advanced adds workflow automation and multiple inboxes; Expert adds security and multibrand controls.
- Fin can also work with supported external helpdesks without buying Intercom human seats.
Cons
- −Fin automation outcomes, campaigns, calls, WhatsApp and SMS add variable expenses beyond seat fees.
- −A Fin Procedure handoff can be a billable outcome even if a human later handles part of the case.
- −Monthly seat prices rise sharply from Essential $39 to Advanced $99 or Expert $139.
- −Some AI productivity and proactive features require separately billed Copilot/Pro/Proactive Support add-ons.
- −A short-lived $19 Essential promotion can mislead buyers about normal annual $29 pricing.
