6 Best Octa GST Alternatives for Indian Businesses
Compare Octa GST alternatives including Masters India, GSTZen, SPEQTA, TallyPrime, Zoho Books and CompuTax for reconciliation, filing and accounting.

The strongest Octa GST alternatives address different kinds of Indian tax and accounting work. Masters India and GSTZen are specialist GST reconciliation and filing platforms. SPEQTA GST and CompuTax appeal to tax practitioners and firms with multiple clients. TallyPrime and Zoho Books combine GST tasks with broader bookkeeping. Octa GST itself emphasizes GSTR-2B matching, IMS actions, supplier oversight and enterprise compliance modules; its public Standard plan is ₹25,000 annually while Premium requires a custom quote. We compare six options against actual working requirements rather than declaring a universal best product.

Indian GST return filing, invoice reconciliation and input-tax-credit tracking
Best for: Indian finance teams or tax professionals managing GST return preparation, GSTR-2B matching and ITC tracking without replacing their underlying accounting system.
- ITC claim tracking
- GSTR-2B and purchase reconciliation
- GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B
- SEZ / ISD / TDS
- E-invoicing and e-way bills
- The official product includes GSTR-1/GSTR-3B preparation, GSTR-2B reconciliation and ITC tracking in one GST-specific workflow.
- Standard publishes a definite annual price and annual sales/purchase invoice caps, enabling a basic scope comparison.
- Excel/CSV ingestion and GSTIN lookup support workflows where accounting data begins in another system.
- Standard restricts e-invoicing, e-way bills, SEZ, ISD, TDS and external ERP/API connectors to Premium according to the plan matrix.
- Standard is capped at 3,000 sales and 3,000 purchase invoices per year in its official summary.
When should you seek an Octa GST alternative?
Changing GST software is worthwhile when the current system does not support the return types you need, has cumbersome invoice reconciliation, lacks a necessary integration or costs too much for the real work performed. The first decision is whether the company wants a dedicated compliance layer or a complete accounting system. A startup that has not adopted a ledger may find combined accounting and GST simpler. A chartered accountant could prioritize managing dozens of client GSTINs and preparing annual returns.
Octa GST’s entry plan has a notable limitation: e-invoicing, e-waybills, SEZ, ISD and GST TDS are Premium-only on the vendor comparison table. It also has a contradictory Standard GSTIN allowance, with one in the plan card and fewer than five in the chart. The vendor publishes an annual noncancelable, nonrefundable policy. These are rational reasons to compare alternatives before paying, but another vendor can have its own contract restrictions, data-export limitations and implementation requirements. We would evaluate those equally.
Methodology and limitations
Testing methodology
Our preferred demonstration is a representative monthly close that includes clean invoices, supplier tax discrepancies, a credit note, a late-filed purchase, a change in invoice number and at least one IMS action that needs approval. Score what the application identifies, whether users can explain a mismatch, how portal actions are submitted and whether the final report can be exported to the accounting file. Use the same anonymized input dataset for all finalists. Without a like-for-like test, a vendor’s claim of AI-assisted matching cannot establish that it is more accurate than another tool.
Six Octa GST alternatives compared
| Platform | Best fit | Model | Pricing status |
|---|---|---|---|
| Octa GST | GST compliance and IMS reconciliation | Cloud specialist | ₹25,000 Standard annual; Premium quote |
| Masters India GST Software | Return filing and portal matching | GST specialist | Current exact quote needed |
| GSTZen | GSTR-2B and portal reconciliation | Cloud specialist | Basic, Pro, Pro Plus; verify numeric tier fees |
| SPEQTA GST | Chartered accountants and local client files | Desktop practice tool | Edition and promotional terms need verification |
| TallyPrime | Accounting, inventory and GST | Accounting-first | Verify current license and support cost |
| Zoho Books | Cloud accounting and GST | SaaS accounting-first | Confirm India plan and tax modules |
| CompuTax GST | Practitioner return preparation | Tax-practice suite | Request current license quote |
The products should not be ranked from this table by price because they do not sell identical functionality. A TallyPrime license can replace or extend accounting operations; an Octa GST license may be an additional layer on top of an existing ERP. GSTZen’s page discusses per-GSTIN pricing, which changes the economics of multi-state businesses. Other vendors may sell packages based on users, clients, modules or volumes. A fair comparison normalizes all registrations, annual invoices, key forms, API calls, support and long-term data export.
1. Masters India GST Software
Best for GST return and reconciliation operations
Masters India’s official documentation covers GST return handling, reports and GSTR-2B versus purchase-register reconciliation. It also includes GSTR-1 and sales-register comparisons and guides for Invoice Management System activity. For finance teams whose books are already maintained elsewhere, that is a direct alternative to Octa GST’s reconciliation-centric model. An organization could use Masters India to identify where supplier data and its purchase ledger diverge and to produce reporting for a tax review. That focus differs from an accounting application that must also handle inventory, bills and bank entries.
Documentation describes working across report types and multiple periods or registrations. This is potentially useful for a central tax office handling more than one business location. Still, the existence of a module in documentation is not proof of a particular subscription entitlement, integration or support promise. We would ask Masters India to demonstrate the precise reconciliation steps using an invoice absent from GSTR-2B and another with a minor amount difference. The output should identify which data sources were compared and how an authorized user records resolution.
Masters India pricing and tradeoffs
We found official product and guide material but not a reliably universal numeric current license price suitable for quoting here. Request a written offer specifying GSTINs, sales/purchase volume, IMS, GSTR-2B, return filing, e-invoicing, e-waybill, integration and support. Compare it with Octa GST Standard only if the same functions are included; otherwise request an Octa GST Premium quote as the relevant benchmark. Ask about setup, GSTN connectivity and any API usage billing as well.
Masters India would be our first specialist shortlist when the team values documented reconciliation workflows and standardized return reports. Octa GST should remain in the test if the company likes its particular IMS approval process or can obtain a better scoped enterprise integration. We cannot claim which has the faster interface or higher matching precision without testing both against the same invoices. Procurement should reward reproducible exception handling and the quality of its export trail, not the number of marketing features.
2. GSTZen
A cloud GST specialist with named tiers
GSTZen describes cloud return filing, GSTR-2A/2B reconciliation, reporting and related compliance features. Its official pricing page lists Basic, Pro and Pro Plus. The displayed summaries place GST return filing and reconciliation in Basic, IMS and new billing features in Pro, and vendor filing status plus other advanced utilities in Pro Plus. The tier progression may suit businesses that want to expand without necessarily adopting a full accounting platform. However, the included features and current pricing should be confirmed for the specific legal entities and transaction volume.
The vendor describes fetching GSTR-2A and GSTR-2B data and comparing it with a purchase register. This makes it a useful benchmark against Octa GST’s Match, Almost Match, Mismatch and Missing categorization. An accountant could test supplier invoice numbers with minor variations, tax-amount rounding and month-shifted filings on both systems. The question is not simply whether an application marks a record as mismatched; it is whether the team can review the reason, retain evidence and correct the resulting workflow.
GSTZen pricing versus Octa GST
GSTZen’s pricing page says prices are per GSTIN, refers to GST added at 18% and shows a 2,000-document-per-month condition, but the retrieved content did not expose dependable numeric fees for Basic, Pro and Pro Plus. We therefore do not copy third-party or historical amounts into the comparison. Ask the vendor whether the document count applies to both inward and outward transactions, which tiers include IMS actions and how volume discounts are calculated. Octa GST’s Standard base has a published annual price and separate sales and purchase limits, so convert both to the same use case.
GSTZen may be a better fit when a clear tiered path and per-registration purchasing model suit the organization. Octa GST may fit a group that negotiates a custom Premium enterprise package. Neither should receive a blanket winner label. Compare the tax-inclusive annual invoice, data security, portal synchronization, role permissions and user training burden. If access to supplier compliance alerts matters, make sure the chosen GSTZen tier actually includes those functions, just as Octa GST restricts its supplier tracking to Premium.
3. SPEQTA GST
Desktop GST filing and reconciliation for Indian CA practices
Best for: Practicing Indian chartered accountants handling GSTR filing and purchase/ITC reconciliation for 20 to 100 or more client GSTINs, who prefer desktop-oriented work.
- Tax data imports
- ITC reconciliation
- GSTR return preparation
- Offline preparation
- Client reminders
- Vendor documents preparation for multiple GST return formats including GSTR-1, 3B, 9 and 9C.
- Matching workflows cover GSTR-2A, 2B, GSTR-3B and books/invoices, including annual comparisons.
- Can ingest Excel, Tally, BUSY and Marg-related templates for client records, subject to current import compatibility.
- Pricing information conflicts: the vendor says ICAI members can use Startup free for three years, while ICAI's partner page lists discounted Startup and other paid rates.
- A Windows desktop installation and LAN licensing workflow are less suited to teams needing a mobile-first, centrally hosted client portal.
Desktop software designed for tax professionals
SPEQTA GST advertises desktop-based GST software for chartered accountants, advocates, tax practitioners and businesses. That is a distinct deployment preference from Octa GST’s cloud positioning. For a practitioner who works with many client files and wants a desktop-first workflow, SPEQTA deserves a real evaluation. But local storage makes backup, disk encryption, access control and device replacement the firm’s operational responsibility.
Its website lists Startup, Gold and Platinum editions with GSTIN allowances advertised as up to 20, up to 100 and unlimited. It also references special arrangements for ICAI members. These public claims should be checked against the current order and any eligibility condition; an old free or discounted arrangement cannot be assumed to apply to every buyer. A CA firm should compare client onboarding, annual returns, audit reports and user permissions, not simply divide the license charge by the number of registrations.
When SPEQTA may be preferable
Octa GST is more likely to appeal to a business seeking browser-based centralized access and customized ERP or API options under Premium. Neither approach is inherently safer: local desktops need secure backups and software updates, while cloud vendors need strong identity, tenant separation and data-processing controls. The right choice follows a documented data risk assessment and how staff actually work.
Ask for current SPEQTA license and renewal costs for the needed edition, number of users, computers and LAN sharing. Then test whether historic client records can be migrated and exported, whether filing acknowledgements are linked to individual clients and how a review is delegated to another staff member. If the vendor describes local security benefits, assess how its application helps a team maintain backups and recover after a damaged workstation. These practical details can dominate the ownership experience.
4. TallyPrime
Accounting and GST in one system
Official Tally documentation now describes an inward Invoice Management System workflow that downloads supplier-uploaded invoices, assigns action statuses and manages input tax credit against the portal. A company that already posts purchases and sales in TallyPrime may prefer checking GST inside the same system rather than exporting files to a specialist platform every month.
This accounting connection can be valuable when the real cause of a GST mismatch is a mistaken ledger entry, stock item tax rate or supplier master record. The user can investigate close to the original transaction instead of reconciling two disconnected datasets. But TallyPrime’s general ledger breadth does not automatically replace the specialized supplier tracking, PAN-level oversight, notice monitoring or customized multi-ERP integrations available in Octa GST Premium. Determine the required filings and entity coverage before concluding that a built-in GST menu solves everything.
TallyPrime migration and cost comparison
If a business already pays for TallyPrime, inspect the current version, service entitlement and enabled GST features before buying another product. The marginal cost of using existing accounting data might be low. If the business uses another ERP, migrating all books solely to get GST functions can be a much larger project than adopting Octa GST as a specialist overlay. Include user training, historical migration, inventory and bank operations, version updates and data-export effort in the cost comparison. We do not quote an unverified current TallyPrime price here.
For a pilot, reconcile the same invoices in TallyPrime and Octa GST. Record steps to locate a wrong tax value, handle an IMS pending invoice and trace the final result to the government portal. If the finance team gains clarity by keeping the ledger and GST process together, TallyPrime has an operational advantage. If it must consolidate across multiple ERPs, a separate compliance platform may be more maintainable. This judgment requires a real workflow, not a generic software ranking.
5. Zoho Books
Cloud accounting software with invoicing, banking, inventory, projects, automation, tax workflows, advanced analytics and deep Zoho ecosystem integration.
Best for: Small and midsize businesses that want strong accounting automation, transparent pricing and tight integration with the wider Zoho Finance and business ecosystem.
- Advanced inventory and analytics
- Core accounting and invoicing
- Projects and inventory
- Fixed assets and cash-flow forecasting
- Permanent US Free plan is available while annual revenue stays at or below $50K.
- Paid pricing is transparent across six tiers and annual discounts are clearly published.
- 14-day free trial lets buyers switch among paid tiers before subscribing.
- Free plan is tied to an annual revenue threshold in the US.
- Advanced inventory and BI capabilities require expensive Elite or Ultimate tiers.
Cloud accounting with GSTR-2B and IMS support
Zoho Books combines accounting, billing and other finance operations with India-specific GST features. Its official help documents fetching GSTR-2B and categorizing transactions into matched and partially matched groups, among others. It also provides an Invoice Management System workflow. A small or midsize business that wants one cloud environment for ledgers, invoices and GST may find this simpler than combining a general accounting service with Octa GST. The benefit is fewer separate data transfers and easier access to original transactions.
However, adopting Zoho Books as a replacement for existing accounts can be a substantial migration. The business must transfer balances, invoices, customers, suppliers, bank activity and perhaps inventory records, while preserving audit history. It may also need to train bookkeepers on new procedures. If the current ERP works well, adding a specialist GST layer can be less disruptive. Evaluate whether Zoho Books supports every required statutory workflow at the chosen Indian plan level and whether extra organization or user charges apply.
When Zoho Books is the stronger choice
Zoho Books makes sense when bookkeeping itself is being selected or modernized, not merely because GST software is needed. Compare the cost of one combined platform with the full cost of retaining an existing accounting tool and adding Octa GST. For multi-GSTIN or high-volume work, test organization boundaries, role permissions, IMS actions and reporting. Numeric Zoho pricing varies with subscription edition and billing structure, so confirm the current Indian plan rather than using a price from another region.
We would also test how invoices flow into GSTR-2B comparisons and how a bookkeeper corrects an underlying entry after a mismatch is found. The accounting team should be able to explain whether the change affects the ledger, taxes or both. A polished cloud interface does not automatically ensure correct tax classification. Keep Octa GST on the list if the organization needs specialist reconciliation and enterprise workflows beyond what its accounting application handles.
6. CompuTax GST
GST return software for practitioners
CompuTax offers GST filing software aimed at businesses, accountants and tax professionals as part of its wider tax-product portfolio. This makes it a reasonable alternative for chartered accountant firms and compliance service providers who prepare and file client returns. Their concerns may involve client administration, filing periods, annual compliance, archived evidence and support at deadline time more than a corporation’s ERP integration. The exact CompuTax product and subscription should be identified before judging it against Octa GST, because a tax software vendor can sell several related modules.
Ask CompuTax to demonstrate GSTR-1/3B preparation, GSTR-2B reconciliation, any required IMS actions and relevant annual returns for the firm’s client mix. A case involving an amended invoice or reversed credit is more revealing than a simple screenshot of a clean return. No reliable numeric current license amount was confirmed from the official pages we reviewed, so procurement needs a tailored quote.
CompuTax versus Octa GST
CompuTax may suit a practice that prioritizes tax return preparation and recurring client filing. Octa GST may better fit an internal finance team focused on invoice matching, supplier oversight and Premium ERP connectivity. These are workflow-oriented recommendations, not performance ratings. We would request a written list of modules, GSTINs, staff licenses, support renewal and upgrade policy for CompuTax and set it beside an Octa GST Standard or Premium proposal with the same scope.
A complete comparison should include accountant training, handling of rejected portal submissions, reprocessing amended invoices and backup of archived tax data. Filing support and troubleshooting during a statutory deadline may matter more to a practitioner than visual analytics. The vendor that demonstrates the cleanest exception workflow with a real sample is a better candidate than one that merely offers the longest features list. We have not independently run that test, so we do not manufacture a winner.
A caution about the former Clear SME GST offering
Some lists still mention legacy Clear GST as if all former small-business functionality were an unchanged subscription. Clear’s own GST/TDS transition notice describes ending a specific SME product and directing affected customers to partners, including Octa GST, Zoho Books and CompuTax. Its historic transition dates were in 2025. Clear also offers enterprise finance and compliance products, so the brand name alone does not specify what is currently purchasable for a given business. We exclude the discontinued SME package from our six active alternative recommendations.
This distinction matters to anyone migrating historical records. A partnership reference does not guarantee that every old invoice, GST return, approval note or portal attachment moves automatically. Ask the receiving vendor which data years and file types can be imported, and keep an independent export before the old account becomes unavailable. A successful migration is one where the accountant can reproduce prior returns and explain tax positions, not merely view a new dashboard.
How to compare total cost instead of headline fees
| Cost category | Comparison question |
|---|---|
| License | Annual, per GSTIN, per user or custom enterprise? |
| Invoice limits | Sales/purchases, adjustments and archives included? |
| Filing coverage | GSTR-1, GSTR-3B, GSTR-9/9C, IMS, e-invoice and e-waybill? |
| Data flow | CSV, accounting connector, ERP API and mapping charges? |
| Operations | Backups, audit trails, role restrictions and support? |
| Exit costs | Refund policy, export rights and historic record access? |
Octa GST’s current Standard base is ₹25,000 a year, but it lacks e-invoicing and e-waybills and has a limited invoice volume. GSTZen mentions per-GSTIN pricing and a document condition, but a reliable numeric tier comparison was not obtainable from the reviewed public page. SPEQTA, Masters India and CompuTax need current configuration-specific offers. TallyPrime and Zoho Books add accounting value that cannot be priced as GST reconciliation alone. A fair comparison should use at least a one-year and three-year total cost, including internal implementation effort.
Also consider switching risk. Octa GST’s published policy says no cancellation or refunds after the annual purchase, while competitors have their own terms to review. A modest subscription discount may not offset difficult migration, loss of historic audit evidence or a new dependence on manual spreadsheet work. Ask for a defined service and escalation process if GSTN is unavailable during a filing window.
Recommendations by use case
A one-GSTIN small business
If accurate books already exist and filing complexity is limited, compare Octa GST Standard against GSTZen and Masters India offers with matching module scope. If the company needs a full ledger, cash flow, sales and purchase bookkeeping, also examine TallyPrime and Zoho Books. Do not select Octa GST Standard if e-invoicing or e-waybills are essential without a Premium quote. A simple, auditable process may be preferable to a feature-rich tool whose extra modules remain unused.
A chartered accountant with many clients
Prioritize SPEQTA GST and CompuTax while keeping a cloud GST specialist in the shortlist if collaborative reconciliation is important. Compare client GSTIN allowances, staff permissions, annual-return workpapers, file separation and deadline support. Ask whether an ICAI-related discount is currently available and whether it applies to the edition required. A desktop installation can be practical for a tax practice, but a robust encrypted backup and disaster-recovery routine remains essential.
A multi-entity enterprise
For a group with several PANs, GSTINs, ERPs and advanced compliance requirements, evaluate Octa GST Premium alongside Masters India and other enterprise-specific proposals. Measure integration depth, report consolidation, IMS control, exception exports and management of high transaction volumes. A contract should list the exact entities, module coverage and processing entitlements. The apparent flexibility of unlimited GSTIN marketing is irrelevant without an acceptable implementation, service and data-security agreement.
Advantages, limitations and final verdict
Pros
- Six products cover specialist GST, practitioner and accounting use cases
- Desktop and cloud choices support different working models
- Accounting suites may remove data transfers
- Practitioner suites may better suit client workflows
Cons
- Plan prices are not standardized across vendors
- Historic promotions and retired offerings can mislead
- Data migration can outweigh subscription savings
- Product documentation is not a hands-on accuracy test
- Exact modules must be confirmed per edition
- All vendors need independent security and contract review
Who should avoid this
- Buyers seeking a universal score with no real-data tests
- Teams that compare only monthly-equivalent rates
- Companies unwilling to validate GSTIN limits and modules
- Practices lacking a historical data migration and backup plan
Expert tip
Our preference depends on the task: Masters India and GSTZen are direct competitors for compliance-first reconciliation; SPEQTA GST and CompuTax fit practitioner discussions; TallyPrime and Zoho Books belong on the list when full accounting integration is the goal. Octa GST remains relevant when its documented IMS flow or Premium module package addresses the business problem. We cannot responsibly state that one vendor is fastest or most accurate without measured, identical transaction tests. Use the case-specific pilot and signed scope to make the final decision.
GST rules and vendor prices can change, and professional advice is needed for actual filing decisions.
