Gist Review 2026: Features, Pros, Cons and Verdict
A research-based review of Gist: features, pricing context, strengths, limitations, buyer fit and cited evidence.

Gist combines live chat, team inbox, knowledge base, support bots, custom bots, surveys, product tours, contact tracking, email marketing, automation, meetings, forms and deal/customer data tools. The breadth is strong, though some advanced support/marketing features and add-ons are reserved for Premium.
G2's 218-review aggregate and Capterra's 149-review listing both support strong day-to-day usability and support, with Capterra at 4.5/5 ease and 4.7/5 service. Reviews still mention learning curve, occasional live-chat/feature quirks and an increasingly broad interface that can feel busy.
Gist publishes Free tiers plus Professional pricing for Support ($29), Marketing ($19) and All-in-One ($48), a 14-day paid-plan trial and a 15% annual discount. Premium prices are currently promotional and displayed beside much higher reference prices, so time-sensitive discounting reduces clarity slightly.
Gist documents AWS multi-region infrastructure, 256-bit encrypted transit, AES-256 at-rest encryption, VPC controls, audit logging, permission controls, GDPR/DPA processes and integrations with Stripe, WooCommerce, WordPress, Segment, Zapier, Shopify and more. No independent Gist SOC 2/ISO application certification was verified.
Scored by Aditya Verma
Gist is an all-in-one customer communication platform that brings live chat, shared inbox, knowledge base, bots, meetings, forms, email marketing, automation, surveys, product tours and customer data into one workspace. Based on the current pricing page, help-center documentation, API reference and independent review evidence we checked, Gist is most compelling for small and midsize SaaS, ecommerce and service businesses that want to reduce tool sprawl across support and lifecycle marketing. Its biggest strength is breadth for the price. Its biggest limitation is the same breadth: teams can outgrow individual modules when they need enterprise-grade help desk depth, advanced CRM, highly specialized automation or a simpler single-purpose interface.

What is Gist?
Gist is a cloud-based platform from ConvertFox Global, Inc. that aims to connect support, marketing and customer engagement in one product. Its current feature set spans live chat, team inbox, public knowledge base, custom bots, lead qualification, in-app messages, meetings, surveys, product tours, contact segmentation, website/event tracking, email campaigns, drip sequences, marketing automation and integrations.
That makes Gist different from a narrow live-chat widget or email service provider. A visitor can arrive on a website, start a chat, become a contact, receive tagged segmentation, book a meeting, enter a drip campaign and later contact support through the same broader platform. For a lean team, that unified customer record can reduce duplicated setup across several tools.
It also means Gist has several buyer personas at once. A support team may evaluate it against LiveChat or Tidio. A marketing team may compare it with ActiveCampaign or Benchmark. An agency may compare the all-in-one suite with GoHighLevel. Those comparisons are valid because Gist intentionally crosses category boundaries.
How we researched Gist
Testing methodology
We gave the current pricing page more weight than older comparison pages because Gist has changed its plan structure over time. Some older vendor comparison pages still refer to Growth and per-user support pricing. The current main pricing page instead presents separate Support, Marketing and All-in-One product families with Free Forever, Professional and Premium levels.
We also found current vendor-policy inconsistencies. The pricing FAQ says annual billing receives a 15% discount, while an older billing article describes annual service as 12 months for the price of 10, which is a larger effective discount. The pricing FAQ says the most recent renewal or upgrade may be refunded when Gist is contacted within 72 hours, while older help-center refund articles describe a 14-day refund window for initial payments or recent charges. We disclose those differences rather than blending them into one rule.

Live chat and shared inbox
Gist's support product starts with the basics a small team expects: website live chat, a shared inbox, unlimited conversation history, notifications, saved replies, office hours and mobile apps. The current Free Forever Support tier includes two support seats, which makes it practical for a small business to run live chat without paying immediately.
Professional adds more support channels and operational tools, including email forwarding, Facebook and Twitter integration, in-app messages, a public knowledge base, automated chat triggers, a lead-qualification bot, transcripts, satisfaction ratings and Zapier. Premium adds the more sophisticated support layer: custom bots, 1:1 direct messages, surveys, product tours, live visitor view, assignment rules, richer reports, roles and permissions, Salesforce/HubSpot integration and an unbranded messenger.
This creates a sensible growth path. The tradeoff is that specialist support platforms can still go deeper in areas such as workforce management, ticketing workflows, complex SLAs or enterprise analytics. Buyers should compare the exact queue, routing and reporting requirements rather than assuming an all-in-one suite automatically replaces every help desk.
Knowledge base and self-service
Professional support and All-in-One tiers add a public knowledge base, while higher tiers layer in more automation and service tooling. Gist's pricing comparison includes unlimited articles and collections and supports a large set of knowledge-base languages. Agents can share articles directly inside conversations.
For a SaaS or service business, this creates a useful support loop: write a help article, surface it in chat, and use conversation context to guide users toward self-service. That is more integrated than running chat and documentation in separate products.
Email marketing
Marketing Free currently supports 200 contacts and includes contact/company lists, tags and segments, website/event tracking, forms and popups, broadcast email, personalization and basic email templates. Marketing Professional begins at $19 per month for 1,000 contacts and adds the visual email builder, automated emails, drip campaigns, single-step automations, conditional content, custom email domains, custom templates, countdown timers and resend-to-non-openers.
Premium is where Gist becomes a more serious marketing-automation comparison. The pricing page currently advertises multi-step visual workflows, more than 100 automation templates, automatic event tracking, ecommerce integrations, abandoned-cart campaigns, smart send times, delivery windows, deeper reporting and CRM integrations.
The limitation is contact-based pricing. As the marketing database grows, the Professional or Premium amount can increase. Teams should compare future contact count, not only the 1,000-contact starting tier.
Marketing automation
Gist's automation value comes from combining behavior and communication. Contacts can be segmented from website and event data, then entered into automated email or customer-engagement sequences. Premium's multi-step builder is the relevant comparison for teams considering ActiveCampaign.
Gist is more attractive when support and marketing should share customer context. ActiveCampaign is more specialized when deep lifecycle automation, segmentation and campaign logic are the primary requirement. That distinction matters more than counting the number of automation nodes.
Meetings, forms, surveys and product tours
Gist also covers several smaller products that teams often buy separately. Meeting scheduling is included even on Free Support. Forms and popups are part of the marketing side. Premium support adds surveys and product tours.
The consolidation value can be substantial for a small team. Instead of paying separately for a chat widget, scheduler, forms tool, email platform, survey tool and product-tour service, Gist can centralize much of the workflow. The downside is that specialist tools may provide more advanced design or analytics in their particular category.
API and integrations
Gist publishes a REST-style API for custom workflows. Current documentation exposes areas including contacts, events, tags, segments, forms, campaigns, articles and subscription data. Requests must use HTTPS and authentication, and the documented rate limit is 100 requests per 10 seconds per workspace.
Gist also lists integrations with systems such as WordPress, WooCommerce, Stripe, Zapier, Shopify, Google Calendar and Zoom. Higher tiers add deeper integrations such as Salesforce and HubSpot. This helps Gist work as the communication layer around another system of record rather than forcing every organization to treat Gist as the only CRM.
Security, GDPR and account controls
Gist's current Toollers research record cites AWS multi-region infrastructure, encrypted transport, AES-256 encryption at rest, VPC controls, backups and audit logging. Gist's own GDPR documentation says the company offers a DPA, reviews subprocessors and conducts audits, vulnerability scans and penetration testing.
The current GDPR page lists subprocessors including AWS, Stripe, Zapier, Slack, Segment, SendGrid, Bugsnag, Mixpanel, New Relic and DocuSign. Gist also documents identity verification for Messenger installations so logged-in users cannot be easily impersonated by someone who knows an email address or user ID.
Premium includes roles and permissions. Gist's custom-role documentation shows granular controls across workspace settings, contacts, messages, pipelines and billing-related areas. That is useful for growing teams, although the public research we reviewed did not verify a current independent Gist SOC 2 or ISO application certification.
Gist pricing
| Plan | Current monthly price | Annual status | Key allowance |
|---|---|---|---|
| Support Free | $0 | Free Forever | 2 support seats, live chat, inbox, conversation history and meetings |
| Support Professional | $29/month | Vendor advertises annual discount; exact effective discount is inconsistent across current/older docs | 5 support seats, knowledge base, triggers, lead qualification and Zapier |
| Marketing Free | $0 | Free Forever | 200 contacts, broadcast email, forms, tags, segments and tracking |
| Marketing Professional | $19/month starting price | Annual discount available | 1,000 contacts, visual email builder, drip campaigns and automations |
| All-in-One Free | $0 | Free Forever | 200 contacts plus 2 support seats |
| All-in-One Professional | $48/month | Annual discount available | 1,000 contacts plus 5 support seats and Professional support/marketing features |
| Premium plans | Promotional/time-sensitive | Verify before purchase | Advanced bots, automations, reports, ecommerce and higher-end integrations |
The current main pricing page separates Support, Marketing and All-in-One. This is useful because a company can buy only the workload it needs rather than automatically paying for the entire suite.
Premium deserves extra care. Gist currently shows promotional Premium prices next to much higher reference prices. Support Premium is displayed at $99 per month beside a $499 reference amount; Marketing Premium at $29 beside $49; All-in-One Premium at $128 beside $548. The page labels these promotions as ending soon, so they should not be treated as stable long-term list prices.
Gist advertises a 14-day trial for paid plans. The pricing FAQ says a card is required to begin the premium trial but the customer is not billed until after the 14 days. The Free Forever plans do not require a card.
Gist pros and cons
Pros
- Free Forever options exist for support, marketing and the combined suite
- One workspace can replace several separate tools for live chat, email, forms, meetings and automation
- Professional pricing is easy to understand at the entry contact/seat levels
- Capterra and G2 both show strong customer ratings for ease, support and value
- Public API and broad integrations support custom workflows
Cons
- The product's breadth can make setup and navigation feel busy
- Premium prices are currently promotional and may not be durable
- Contact growth and higher-tier automation can increase marketing cost
- Vendor billing/refund documents are not perfectly synchronized
- No current independent Gist SOC 2 or ISO application certification was verified in the public research
Who should use Gist?
Who should use this
- Small and midsize SaaS companies that want support and lifecycle marketing in one place
- Service businesses that need live chat, meetings, forms and email without several subscriptions
- Ecommerce teams that want chat plus marketing automation and abandoned-cart workflows
- Lean support/marketing teams that value a shared customer record and consolidated interface
Gist is most compelling when consolidation solves a real problem. If five small tools create duplicated contact data, fragmented reporting and repeated setup, Gist can simplify the stack. It is less compelling when the organization already has best-in-class systems that integrate cleanly and each specialist tool is heavily used.
Who should avoid Gist?
Who should avoid this
- Large support organizations that require deep workforce management, complex SLAs or enterprise ticket operations
- Marketing teams whose main requirement is sophisticated lifecycle automation and segmentation beyond Gist's depth
- Enterprises that require a specific independently verified security certification not established in the current public research
- Teams that prefer a narrow single-purpose product over an all-in-one interface
Toollers rating breakdown
The current Toollers research score for Gist is 4.5 out of 5. This is separate from G2 and Capterra customer ratings.
Rating Breakdown
4.7
4.4
4.5
4.4
The 4.7 feature score reflects the unusually broad support-and-marketing toolkit. Usability remains strong but not perfect because independent reviews mention a learning curve and a broad interface. Pricing scores well because the Free and Professional tiers are clear, while Premium promotions and conflicting annual/refund wording reduce certainty. Trust scores well for documented infrastructure, encryption, GDPR and API/integration controls but stops short of assuming certifications that were not verified.

What current users say about Gist
G2 currently shows Gist at 4.6 out of 5 from 219 reviews. The product appears across marketing automation, live chat, self-service and popup categories. Review patterns consistently emphasize the convenience of having customer communication and marketing in one platform, strong perceived value and positive support experiences.
Capterra currently shows Gist at 4.7 out of 5 from 149 reviews, with 4.5 for ease of use and 4.7 for customer service. Reviewers frequently praise the combination of live chat, email automation, contact management and knowledge base features. Several users explicitly say pricing or consolidation was a reason for choosing Gist over alternatives.
The negative themes are also useful. Some reviewers say the interface can feel bloated or overwhelming as features accumulate. Others mention occasional notification delays, feature quirks, form or reporting limitations and inconsistent support response speed. These are not universal failures, but they are good evaluation targets for a team considering migration.
Gist alternatives
Gist spans several software categories, so the best alternative depends on which part of the suite matters most. Tidio is stronger for a focused AI-support and help-desk workflow. LiveChat is stronger for dedicated live-chat operations. ActiveCampaign is the deeper marketing-automation comparison. GoHighLevel is the broader agency CRM and automation platform. Boei is a lighter AI-chat and multichannel website-engagement option. Benchmark is the simpler email-marketing alternative.
Final verdict
Gist makes the most sense when a growing business wants one customer communication platform instead of several point solutions. Its Free Forever tiers are practical, Professional prices are accessible and the feature set is broad enough to cover a surprising amount of support and marketing work.
The compromise is depth and clarity at the edges. Premium pricing is promotional, billing/refund documentation has some historical inconsistency and specialist tools can outperform Gist in individual categories. That does not weaken the core value proposition; it defines the buyer. Gist is strongest for teams optimizing for consolidation and simplicity across the customer lifecycle rather than maximum specialization in one function.
